    Question on speakers...

Why do JL speakers (JL C3 600 6.5) that support 75 watt RMS cost $499 (source: crutchfiled) versus other 6.5 speakers that cost $150, support 150 watt RMS, and have the same setup (speaker, tweeter, crossovers)? They seem to be made of the same materials/components and outside of a brand name I don't see what garners that higher price. Is there something I'm missing or are you paying for the brand? Just want to see if I'm spot on or if there is a detail I'm overlooking to improve my knowledge on this.

    Thanks!

RMS tells you nearly nothing about the speaker. Once you hear a $499 set up against a $150 set up you will know what they cost more.

Why don't you get a good set of Audiofrogs?

    +1 for audiofrogs

I cant comment on the C3's but i ran the c2's and c5's at the same time, its was a night and day difference.

Dont get too fixated on the power handling of the speakers.
Unless you are going for an absolute screamer of a system, i would aim for your amps and speakers hitting about 75w rms.....150w rms is too much if you are aiming for a balanced system.

Sensitivity is more important. If you have a 93 db/w speaker at 75W it, a 90db/w speaker would need 150W to reach the same peak loudness.

Well I like the GB60s for the front and the GS62 for rear fill

$1,230 for those two sets, ~4x my planned budget and install within the next two months. I need to find another revenue stream to fund my new Tundra habit...lol

The GS line is less expensive than the GB....the GS60's can be found for $229.
You can also look at the G60S component setup.

The GS series is a cheaper alternative. If you want Audiofrog gear, I have a good source that is way less than Crutchfield.

    Brand name, marketing, hype.

It's the same for any product. Just look at Kirkland.

Of course, that is why I started with Kickers, moved to JL and Kenwood and now run Morels.

So, I went from a $90 set to a $600 set because of the name, marketing (which Morel does little of), and hype (which Morel has little of)?

Seeing as to how I've had all those and many more, yes you can very much tell a difference and it is easy to tell when people haven't heard a truly decent set. That's not to say people wont be happy with less, but to say its just hype is nonsense. Its a subjective thing, some will love a certain brand or sound over others, but there is a reason for the cost.

Guess I need to find a local pro audio store that has them on display so I can listen.
