I am thinking about installing a 500w-750w power inverter in the center console plugging in to the 12v thats in the center console, mounting the inverter in the console on the passengers side.

My thought is to have 2 portable charging small LED work lights, always charging (when the truck is running.)

    work light

Then have a USB charging flashlight also, when the truck is running.

    flashlight

Its the stock battery and I dont know that I would use the 500w, 110 outlet, other than charging my tablet.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Thinking about this one...

You don't need an inverter for that. I have a flashlight, emergency cell phone, and dual band radio all plugged in and charging when the truck is on and no inverter to be found.

You're going to take 12v, invert it to AC, to plug in a charger that converts that AC to DC to then charge the devices.

You can also swap out the jack in the console for one that has USB ports. Instead of using that adapter.

But the adapter is cheap and easy.

Besides all of the above, inverters are air cooled and require good ventilation, mounting inside a center console will not provide adequate cooling.

I think that will suffice my needs. I just would like to have a system thats always charging flashlights, work lights, and a small battery pack.

I have a story that happened a few years ago, when I needed light in a serious way, but didnt have anything with me.... now, I always have lights with me. Plus I hunt, fish, and kayak a lot, any way I can charge lights is a positive way, and this is just another way.

I do think a long term 2000w inverter is something I want, just to have, Id like to mount a separate battery/inverter mounted in the decked system, that I can somehow charge via flex solar panels on the roof of the truck. Now that is idea...any overlanders have something like that?

Yea secondary battery is pretty easy until you get in to trying to charge it from the main. Then it’s still not hard just requires planning and the right parts.

Here’s a good one on adding inverter -

I think the dual battery setup has been covered pretty well shouldn’t be hard to find a good write up on it.
