Hey all, I've been looking and watching your boards for about a year. I've done some stuff to my 2018 SR5 2wd. I've replaced the sway bars, Then added a OME 2864 coils to the rear. Then 3 days later put the 6112 Bilstiens. Then replaced the rims with the Tundra TRD. I can't believe the transformation. The look has dramatically changed. Okay, if you are still here. I am going to replace my OME 2864 rear springs for the Dobinson 2.5" lift. My OME springs lifted the rear by 5" making it look like a stink bug. Has anyone installed the Dobinsons? And was it a real 2.5" lift? If 3" it's okay. After I put my OME's on. The guy's at the alignment shop said, the rear was too high. And they couldn't get the alignment in specs. So I will get premature wear on the tires. I will post pictures once I figure out how to do it.

After the coil replacement, my plans are to install a rear elocker system. (Sadly, the dealership I bought my Sequoia from didn't have any 4wd's). So, I am concerned that when I go camping this beast will loose traction without the lockers. It's pretty heavy to be pushing up a hill with only one wheel on a dirt trail.

Hey, just read your thread. Concerned about the reported 5” of lift from the 2864 rear coils. I have those installed on my Sequoia and definitely did not get 5” of lift, they are only supposed to be 2” of lift. If you went with the 2.5” Dobinsons you could end up with even more lift in the rear end and an even stinkier stink bug look =\.

Looking at the last picture with the TRD wheels it doesn’t look like 5” of lift.. what sized tires do you have and shocks in the rear? Also why setting
are the front 6112s set to?

Mine with 2864 rear coils, 5100 rear Bilstein shocks, SPC UCAs, and Eibach/ToyTec coilovers on 295/70r18 tires or roughly 34.5” tires.

EDIT: we should measure from center of wheel to fender in the rear and see if we are close to the same...

I've installed the SPC uca. And my front Bilstein shocks are set at the middle setting. Which is supposed to be at 2.5" to 2.75" lift. The rear lift has lowered an inch since I last measured. My tires size is 285/75/18..

After reviewing the hight of both springs at 1st gen website. OME 2864 was 490mm (19 1/4") and Dobinson c59-719v is 440mm (17 1/4"). I think this is where my problem is.

Let me get you some measurements of my truck. In the meantime check out this build:
    https://www.tundras.com/threads/gnt-tree-build-2008-sequoia.39353/page-2

He has the Dobinson 2.5” lift coils and this is how his truck sat, which he measured as 40.5” from ground to fender on 275/70r18 tires.
    B511F693-6ACE-415D-BA4E-EBA06787E145.jpg

This looks way higher than mine. When it comes to coil springs there is more to it than just length, the QTY of coils in that length should also be considered. Doing some Google pic hunting, looks like the Dobinsons have at least one more full coil than the OME coils also, the Dobinsons are made for the Sequoia, while the OMEs were designed for the land cruiser, which is a considerably lighter vehicle.

You may be 100% correct, I just am timid of you jumping to those Dobinsons which are supposed to provide a higher lift when you are trying to go smaller.

    My Sequoia:

    From Ground:
    D99859FE-2375-43A3-81A0-BB0CDB30C973.jpg

    From center:
    8933C0EB-0ACD-4F74-B7BE-7FA14D1B46AF.jpg

So we look the same approximately. While my truck looks to be about .5” shorter than the Sequoia with the Dobinsons and that is even with my truck having 34.4” tires compared to 33.2” of those 275/70r18. Taking the 1” difference divide by 1/2 to distributed the 1” above and below the hub, we can estimate that his truck is roughly 1” higher than mine.. just napkin math, but I don’t think this will solve the issue you have.. Dobinson does make a 1.75” lift coil so maybe that is something to look into.

    Cheers and best of luck!

First of all [SC_TRD], Thank you for taking the time to help. A fan of your work. I haven't been able to get to the Sequoia till today. My wife and I work different hours.
Today I called 88Rotors offroad. I asked them, With all the coil springs they installed on the Sequoia's do you know what springs present what height? The guy on the phone didn't know that information. I also asked him if they measured the vehicles after the coil springs have been replaced? This way they could have real experience data. They didn't or don't measure after the suspension upgrade.
He suggested I call next week to talk to the manager. Or email him. I know this guy probably works on many different vehicles. And I didn't expect him to know the data. The Sequoia isn't a top producer of work for them.

I did take some measurements of my Sequoia. Surprisingly the measurements matched the opposite side 20210219_152647.jpg

Totally happy to help! When it comes to Sequoias there isn’t enough knowledgeable people out there, I really struggled trying to get similar information when I was going through this.

Bummer they aren’t able to help.. I am thinking we should ask @Toytec Lifts what the expected lift height is for the OME coils and if they measured the fender height after the install, as they sell a pieced kit that uses these OME coils. There was also one other member on here that installed those 2.5” Dobinsons, let me try and remember who it was and we can reach out and ask for them to measure ground to fender.

This is the set-up my friend and I used to compress the springs. We first used the long heat treated bolt with two plates. Then when we compresd springs we put the "clamshell clamp" on. We were concerned if we used the clamshell to compress the springs. It might become very dangerous. (We were mostly concerned the threaded bolt on the c/clamp would strip.) We removed the bolt, and the two plates. Then put the springs in. After having done this once. I know better then to do it twice. I am paying a professional next time.

I contacted Dobinsons Springs. About The lack of springs being available. They said, that they are aware. And suggested I backorder a set. So, when it comes to the states. I will already be in line. I suggest the same.

My last post was over a year ago. I wanted to do a update. I've replaced the rear coil springs to Dobinsons Springs. I am glad I did. The ride and the stance is better. I also went to 35's on the tires. This also made the Sequoia feel more planted to the ground.
