I bought a Leer Legend canopy about a year ago. Last summer, I discovered that the seal at the bottom of the door was starting to let go on one side, letting a bit of water/dirt in. After much back and forth with the place that sold and installed the canopy, they were finally able to get a new seal from Leer. Now they want to know if I want to try to install it myself or have them do it. My thoughts so far:

    Questions I need to ask:
    1. Does it come with decent installation instructions?
    2. Would the replacement seal be warrantied? If so, would me installing it void that warranty?
Honestly, the only upside I can see to doing it myself is being able to get it done sooner. The shop isn't taking appointments until the week after next and I may be working that week. If they installed it, there would be no charge to me because it's under warranty.

So my questions for you guys:
    1. Has anyone done this themselves and, if so, how difficult was it and would you do it again?
    2. Is there anything else I'm overlooking? Any other questions I need to ask them before making a decision?
A couple pictures of the seal:

Pretty sure it just slides in from the end. Easy to do.

    Too many…scratch that…not done yet.
Mine did a similar thing on an ARE.
that loose lower rubber seal was hanging down below the plastic cover plate of the tailgate. I never noticed until it was to late, but I’m sure due to dust/dirt getting up under it, along with the little bit of water runoff that naturally comes through that area and the vibrations of driving, that loose rubber piece sanded through the clear coat and paint in less than six months. So I’d definitely encourage you to watch it and fix it ASAP.

Not sure if yours is exactly the same, but on mine, where the curved-back edge along the top of the rubber seal (see below) hooks on to the channel...

The channel is different along the frame than at the ends. In other words it’s not one even, smooth, continuous channel from on end to the other. At least that was my issue.
I ended up cutting a notch in the curved back part of the seal (pointed to in the pic) about 2-3 inches from the end, so I could get it to fit/hold in place. I then used some sand paper to rough up the underside of the plastic, that the rubber seal attaches to, and added some black RTV sealant around the channel to help hold the rubber seal in place.

I’ve yet to do this part, but it’s on my list...
I’m going to trim the whole plastic part and rubber seal so that it matches up evenly with the plastic, top cover of the tailgate (when closed)..So that there’s nothing else capable of touching the paint.

Hope this makes sense and helps.

Well, turns out Leer sent the wrong seal so the dealer is going to talk to them again. In the interim, they recommended that I Gorilla Glue the seal back in place if the leaking gets excessive.

Pretty much exactly what is is called and made for this purpose.

I cant tell from your pics if this goes into a channel or is just glued on but I imagine maybe both?
I thought I saw some glue residue in one pic but not sure.
Either way the channel often gets smashed and deformed through time and I have had to carefully pry one open before I could slide the molding back in but I have also just said screw it and glued a different profile strip on too.

Looking at your pics again I think the plastic part is just broken too that is the profile that fits the contour of your tailgate and I am not convinced that the strip goes anywhere except to get glued back to that plastic?

Have they even looked at it at your dealer?

Sadly this is not rocket surgery though and it is often not going to happen that you get the same profile no matter what they tell you, so you might just put on some gloves and just glue that strip on there!

No channel, no plastic piece. The seal just glues on. The manager took pictures of the seal and sent them to Leer but I guess they must not have looked at them very carefully.

I've had the canopy for 11 months and most of that time the truck was parked while I worked from home so I'm hard pressed to believe it's damage due to overuse.

Picture of the other side for reference:
