We have some very icy conditions at the moment, black ice everywhere.

The local fire department guys were driving their trucks around with orange fabric wrapped around their wheels, not chains. Said they were snow socks, I'd never seen them before.

Anyone run these? What's a good brand to get? Amazon has a ton of them.

    Thanks

Never seen those before. I'm curious how they would hold up durability wise, if its not icy I could see them just shredding up. In northern states you will see ER vehicles and buses running systems like Onspot Tire Chains. https://youtu.be/3YcDrsYJfug

For a little ice with not much snow, they are fine. A lot of snow and they basically become slicks.

I have a set of these

    http://www.snowsock.ca/

Worked well on icy hills, in snow its decent but it's not magical, chains will always do better but these take about 10mins to put on all 4 corners.
