Anyone else feel like this too? I pulled the plastic engine cover because I enjoy seeing my engine much more than a piece of plastic. I think I might reroute some hoses and come up with a nice hardware kit for the engine bay.

I've had the cover off for a few months now and have not noticed any increase in sound (injector tick is one I was listening for). I do have an aftermarket intake, but I'm not hearing any additional noises that would be objectionable.

Beside aesthetics, there are a few functions of engine covers.
As you stated, they do help mitigate some sound. minute but quantifiable
The cover also acts as a drip shield to protect both the engine valley and couplers from water intrusion.
While the hood deflects direct rain, people do directly spray down their engine bays to clean them despite that being an obviously bad idea.
Road spray will soak an engine bay during heavy rain.
The cover will help keep the top of the engine cleaner which is a good thing if you ever need to tear it apart.
It also deflects road chemicals such as road salt or de-icing brine. from pooling and accelerating corrosion. (think spark plug holes) Yes the coil packs have seals, but the engine cover is the 1st line of defense.

I prefer a nice clean simplistic engine bay myself. No non-sense fluff.
If only they made a good looking FAST LSX style intake for the I-force.
Unfortunately the only option is called a Whipple/Harrop lol

I don’t use the cover lol. Feel like I hear more injector tick noise, but my truck makes all kinds of weird sounds, so idk.. Hardware kit would be nice.

Haha! Yes. But I have a 2017 as well, never saw any plastic cover. I’m hoping someone’s gotta a picture.

I have seen the engine covers come loose during heavy offroading and cause all sorts of damage. One of my friends came loose and it hit the oil cap until it came loose and fell off. Kind of scary in my opinion. I take my cover off before hitting the trail.

i don't doubt they cause damage flopping around , but i cant imagine the force it would require to unset a cover. it would have to take a major hit, or require the cover to not be set...

I have seen it happen more than once. That being said I see a lot of hard driven Toyotas in my line of work.

The 4.7L engine cover is aluminum, or used to be. Might be plastic on newer things now

We had a member sand blast his, and resoray it. It looks really good. It was either @KNABORES or @N84434???

    Crs is setting in...

    Here's the post.

Yeah, that was me.. It's actually steel, so it was fairly easy to refinish.

I'm thinking of going the opposite direction. I'd like to put the Land Cruiser engine cover on mine.

I sprayed mine down with 303 last time I detailed the truck

People put ON skid plates, wheel well liners, mud flaps, fender flares and who knows what else...I figure it protects it from something, may as well leave it on.

Next Thread hot topic: Why doesn't my 5.7L Tundra come with an aluminum Engine Cover? :annoyed:

Ive always heard they were to quiet the engine down. That’s why I took mine off to see if it was any louder, and I didn’t notice a difference. I don’t buy that it’s to protect anything on top of the engine.

Thank you! Yeah, ok, I have this on mine. Somehow, after reading the first couple of posts, I perceived there was some add-on I didn’t know (or care) about.

To be honest...our engines are kind of ugly to begin with.

I think it looks better on. Not that I care either way, I don't sit and show off the engine or stare at it for hours on end.

Time to black out the emblem on mine in the spring.

Yes, for me all that plumbing looks messy and hides too much of the engine anyway. It looks better with the cover hiding it all.
