Got DAP about 2 weeks ago..AIP bypass? I couldn’t get an answer! But I can confirm on start up that pump is no longer making noise! I think most tuners are afraid of the EPA crackdown BS on custom tunes?

I never spoke with them just went with it due to lack of negative reviews..Install was super easy. Download software to my PC updated the handheld, plugged it into the truck and followed the instructions. Download file to the PC, Sent the requested file to DAP, got the tune back in 2 days, downloaded it into the handheld plugged it in and followed the instructions! Total time was about 20 minutes, including reading the instructions and updating the software.

This is now... hands down the best MOD I’ve done for my Tundra! It is better in every way! Power, shifting, MPG, startup, and drivability!

Looked hard and long at OV but I’m really not up to messing with shit myself! If it would even work for my ECU? And still need to spend $400 on the Hewitt AIP bypass kit!

Cost was $525 shipped with $100 discount code. So kinda like getting an AIP bypass and the a badass tune for $150-200! By it with confidence while you can!

As much as it pains me to drive on the stock tune I decided to wait for OVT release, few things helped solidify my decision.

    * Tried several times (Pre Covid/Post) to reach someone at DAP with no luck (Called/Emailed)
    * WAH environment so dont have to drive much and can afford to wait
    * Not allot of info on what your $600 buys exactly

Bully Dog tune was noticeable and was more obvious once I removed it. The biggest thing was throttle input/trans performance that made the truck feel faster and "probably" make a few more HP/TQ - hwt.Bully-Dog-Tundra-dyno-chart.png (1239×801) (hardworkingtrucks.com)

Not allot of info on DAP but found a dyno comparison to ref - OVTune 3URFE Tundra ECU Tune Development Thread | Toyota Tundra Forum (tundras.com)

Biggest win everyone talks about is "Torque Management Removal" which is another term for TC management and the "Nanny Bypass" does that for me right at $100 which I have and agree made a big difference but lets call it what it is. If this is the TQ management OVT does than it would be shown in the stock vs other dyno comparison for those curious as I was. Gear locking FTW !

Im not biased on any tune and not bashing anyone. I appreciate the attention our platform is receiving lately and anticipate more to come based on what I have read. Just wanted to share all I have gathered as I often see the topic "Which tuner will make my truck do wheelies". Im sure there are more expensive options out there that yield better results but for the money BD/Bypass is hard to beat since it can be removed and transferred. I will also add you do not need a Bully Dog if you use LT Headers, my AFR's were good on WOT without the tune although your mods will benefit more from their "Trail Tune" when used.

At the end of it all get what makes sense for your goal and gear locking among other things is what im after even if I have to learn some new things to get there.

Hi All. New 2018 5.7L SR5 4x4 CrewMax owner here! I have access to a few laptops and have done some basic tuning years ago on my old Eagle Talon TSi. I would love to help on the advsncment here if I can. Maybe help develop the "Training Material" for future users!

Who is the best contact at OVTune for this?

Cant wait to tune my Turdra!

I'm digging the DAP tune since 12/01/2018... it's still my best mod overall.

I have no desire/time to mess with tuning! Much less the learning curve? And waiting for OVTunes constant updates and changes? I waited for over a year! I have to have reliability!!!

After having DAP I see no need for gear lock because the tune does such a good job of holding gears! It’ll hold higher gears for MPG and lower gears when you need them! It’s simply an excellent custom engine/transmission tune in a box! Oh and no more AIP screaming on start up!

Is there still a group rate for DAP? I cant stand the touchy gas peddle and horrible shifts anymore. I was waiting on OTV but I don't want to do this myself.

Same boat I was waiting for OVTune? Lost hope for it being user friendly! So I got DAPtized $100 off for a Christmas/News year deal. Never seen a group buy? Either way it IS a do it all tune, AIP, Better/Smoother Pedal feel, shifting, power, and bonus...better MPG. I also have a BAMuffler and AFE pro dry air filter. I took the AFE air filter out and cleaned it let it dry for a day had to put my Toyota disposable air filter in and really noticed a loss in power. So be sure to at least get the AFE air filter with it.

I was planning to do the BAMuffler at some point. I'll look for the AFE filter system.

Hopefully DAP does another sale and ill jump on it.

Check DAPtune on Facebook.. Best info is there...Get Just the filter.. No need for whole intake. Dap also sells the AFE pro dry filter.

AFE filter really helps that much? Been running stocker since I bought the truck.

I’m not sure it made much of a difference before DAPTUNE? But afterwards yes for sure!

Can anyone confirm that the DAP tune will take care of the AIP codes? I am experiencing the dreaded secondary air pump failure right now and would love to hear from guys who have installed the tune and got rid of the problem.

From prior research those who have the codes already thrown means the pump is stuck in its current state and nothing will alter that status. If you didnt have codes prior than it could be prevented by turning it off although no real confirmation has been given on DAP being able to accomplish that specifically.

Have you read the articles on how to bypass AIP on Tundratalk? I know you can disconnect battery terminals and it should help clear it, but then you need to bypass immediately. My 08 never had the problem but I researched it just in case it did go into limp mode.

I got the pedal commander right now but then saw dap tune info and I live close to Decatur so thinking of heading up for daptizing and returning the pedal commander. The PC is good at getting rid of sluggish pedal in the 18 and up. However, this DAP tune has me intrigued.

It was only good for December last year? I’m sure DAP will offer one soon? Check their Facebook page? And if I remember there wasn’t a code it was just discounted at checkout..

ive tried contacting them many time never the past several weeks..phone calls and emails. no reply. nt a good way to run a business..if they're even in business anymore. if they're that busy maybe they should hire some clerical help. their tunes may be good but their customer service is lacking.

Hey! I just got a response! and it did not go the way I had hoped. after many attempts to contact them I resorted to a successful but failed effort to contact them. I posted a one-star review with the stated caveat that I was only attempting to get their attention because I was interested in their/his service. Low and behold, he responded!! and he was not happy!! suffice it to say I will not be getting my pick-up DAP'd! I believe he replied to my review publicly in the review section. I used his websites "contact us" section for a written request and many phone calls. I never got an email reply and there was no opportunity to leave a voice mail. after the review was submitted a gmail address was displayed. That email address was not displayed anywhere else on his website. I replied to his review post there rather than publicly. he has not responded to that either but at that point the relationship was soiled so I really didn't expect one.

his response was that he never received an email from me though he didn't address not answering the phone. his position was basically that he's working 80 hours a week and working alone because he wasn't getting job applicants.

    in conclusion:
    1) my tactic may have been poorly executed but it achieved the desired goal... A response... but alas it did not end well.
    2) the guy appears to have more business than he can handle as a one man operation. Orrr, he has as much business as he wants without having another person to field phone call and emails.
    3) I live in Texas and could have easily travelled to him but I don't imagine he does walk-in business. I wasn't going to travel 250+ miles for a maybe.

    so beit.

Even if running solo there are ways to inform potential customers of delays or even cease on additional orders until caught up. VM messaging or page announcements goes a long way and helps reduce frustration of those seeking services thus helping protect businesses reputation. Just sayin...

That isn't promising, I would begin questioning the quality if he is doing it alone and is overworked. Maybe DAP isn't the the way to go then.

I dont know if the DAP tune will fix the code or not but the web-site suggest that it will take care of it.

I was getting the dreaded P2443 code-stuck air injector check valve!. here's what I did. I replaced the air pumps and snorkel first!. they have been the root of the problem so I started there. a curious thing, my pumps had no water in them and bench tested fine. oh well, I was already in it so I replaced them. surprisingly the 2443 code cleared and haven't been back. I can now hear the pumps churning when I start it up; I didn't hear them before.

was there a bad contact with the OEM pumps? dunno. the good news is I don't have to or won't at this point replace the check valves.

suggestion: check the plug contacts before replacing the pumps. the pumps aren't that expensive and are easy enough to get to. replace the snorkel as well; it's been redesigned.

the people that have gotten the tune say it's good. I just couldn't get my foot in the door. It was not my intent to trash him. my intent was to get some kind of response. oohhhh and I did...any way!

here's my suggestion..if you have a windows based computer purchase the remote update. I suspect he can squeeze a remote update in between his other work. just a guess. If you're close to Decatur Texas, swing by.

When I got mine done last year, I was seeing comments about how he was hard to reach but the product still shipped quickly and after I emailed my truck’s file to him (via a gmail address on the instructions if I remember correctly) I received my tune back in a couple hours. So in my experience, the trouble with the website/phone doesn’t apply to those who have made a purchase.

I’m not saying it’s good or okay for a business to be tough to reach, especially since it doesn’t inspire confidence as we’re putting our trucks in his hands… but if you’re set on getting the DAP tune you can still [probably] get the tune without any issues.

There are competing products out there, but I personally was set on DAP after seeing the reviews on this site along with how long people have been using his tunes trouble-free. I’m sure there are more aggressive tunes out there, but it will take some time for me to have the same level of confidence in those tunes as I do with this one.

Good to know, one question I had which is the question I asked them, but haven't heard back is can the tuner be moved to another truck if it is unmarried from the existing one or is the tuner a sunk cost and always tied to the truck? That is really my hold up at this point and waiting for another sale.
