    Hi All,

Anyone know of shops in the DFW area that can rebuild shocks? I know places like Southern California have plenty of shops that do that. I’d rather not ship my shocks and prefer to use someone local if they have the know-how and experience, though. Anyone have their shocks rebuilt here in the DFW area?

Thanks in advance for any info!

Maybe call 4wheelparts or SummitRacing? If they don't do the work the might know a place that does. I haven't had to deal with this so that all the advice I have. Good luck :fingerscrossed:

There's a guy on TW that lives north of Denton that rebuilds them.

Thanks, RobertD and Patriot 1776. Lake Vista is kind of far, but at least its in Texas and much closer than So Cal. I called the Dallas 4WP office. They’ve always been friendly and helpful to me in the past. Just as friendly this time, but they’ll only refill with nitrogen if you buy the shocks from them. They also require to R&R them just for the refill at your cost of labor.

Texas Motorworx, which appears to specialize in Ford Raptor builds, will refill nitrogen at $20 per shock as long as it has a schrader valve. Apparently, the 2.5 bodies have them, but not the 2.0’s. They don’t do rebuilds, though. Instead, they ship them to a shop down the street from Fox that does all their rebuilds.

I’ll keep looking and will report back on what I find. Surely there are others in the area with rebuildable shocks that have had them done locally? Supposedly they’re supposed to have the oil and seals changed every so often. Otherwise, I guess I’ll have to try to learn to rebuild them myself and then take them to TX Motorworx for the nitrogen refill.

Dang, I almost forgot! I also asked on Facebook and got a response that Tribe 16 in N Richland Hills rebuilds shocks if you supply the parts, which I assume is the rebuild kit (shims, seals, etc.). I’ll have to follow up on that to confirm.

I know this is a little old, but if you are still looking for shock rebuilders, I just moved into the DFW area and do it on the side. I am experience doing most of the big name brands and get parts from them directly. If you are still looking for someone, shoot me a DM. I am just east of McKinney on a handful of acres in Princeton, TX.

Do them yourself. From those prices, after one rebuild the tooling will pay for itself.

Thanks, Luis. Not too old at all. I haven’t even installed them yet. But when I do, the time will come eventually to get them rebuilt.

Thanks. Yes, I read through your thread. Very informative, and I appreciate the time you put into it. I’ve also only found a few rebuild videos on youtube that are helpful, mostly King shocks, though. Mine are Fox 2.5’s, and I’m guessing they’re all the same? I’m surprised I haven’t found more videos, but I may not be searching that well.

Fox are similar. If you have RR, you have to set reservoir piston depth.

Good to know, and cool little tool from Kartek/German Motorsports. Thanks!

The fronts do have RR, so reservoir piston depth will need to be set. Still haven’t decided what to do for the rear, though. Fox doesn’t seem to offer just a 2.5 OD rear without RR, just a 2.0 OD, at least not that I can find. From what I’ve read on here, 2.0’s may not be sufficient, or at the very least they may not keep up with the bigger fronts?

While I’ve swapped out my share of bolt-on suspension parts on various vehicles over the years, I’m new to running the somewhat higher quality suspensions like the Fox 2.5’s coilovers I just got. Very anxious to try it all out once I get everything installed.

Yeah, I had been looking at those. Main reason would be cost and simplicity, but I’m new to these kinds of higher performance shocks and learning.

Right now I’m running 6112s and 5160s. They were great when I got them 50K miles ago, but now I can tell they’re feeling a little worn, as if their damping capabilities aren’t what they used to be. I’m hoping the Fox’s will be a noticeable improvement, and it helps to know I can get them rebuilt, rather than replaced, when worn.
