So it seems the doorjamb payload already includes the driver. That means when it says "Passengers & cargo = 1270lbs" I actually have the full 1270 for wife, dog, cargo & trailer. Gas already included as well.

    It's a big difference.

This came from a post somewhere where a guy had pulled up to CAT scales and the truck weight _less_ than the door jamb by a couple hundred pounds.

    So what's the truth?

Payload listed includes the driver and some gas, but it may not account for a full tank. Now the figure is whatever they use for average driver weight, so it you are a 240lb man, you weigh more than their allotment for sure. I will give an educated guess that they use 180lbs for driver.

Best to actually weigh the truck. Any accessory added that weighs more than stock or added comes out of available payload. So a spray in bed liner, topper, those heavy bigger tires- all takes away from your payload.

My door sticker says "occupants and cargo" which would imply the driver is not accounted for. Also I have found nothing in the owners manual that states Toyota factored in any weight for the driver. In fact I have found the opposite under the Cargo and Luggage section and where Toyota spells out the "steps for determining correct load limit".

A driver is not a passenger. So I vote for your interpretation. I also drove with a super sack worth (one ton) of rubber mulch in my looong bed with no problem.

Edit: perhaps the stickers on Canadian and USA models are different.

The truth is weigh your truck with a full tank of gas, whatever you normally carry in it and yourself and subtract that from your GVWR (probably 7200 lbs) to figure out how much additional weight you can carry

Yes, 7200. Indeed that's the only thing that matters.
