Well my pandemic project has come to a stand still. Brough home our stock 2018 4x4 Platinum Blizzard White Pearl Sequoia in June. Modifications thus far:

    61454255214__F6CCB5CC-973D-428E-A957-6E17266561A8.jpg

    INTERIOR

    - WeatherTech Floor mats (3 rows and cargo)
    - Replacement of various missing trim and light OEM parts
    - Front console organization insert
    - 3 sets of OEM wireless headsets for the kiddos

    EXTERIOR
    - TRD Pro Grill
    - TRD Pro Lower Grill
    - TRD Pro Fog Lights w/ bezels (applied a Lamin-x yellow overlay)
    - TRD PRO 18" wheels/tires (scored them as new take-offs on some guys 2020 Pro Tundra)
    - Rear black tailgate bezel
    - Black emblem kit
    - Painted mirror covers (Attitude Black)
    - Painted door handles (Attitude Black)
    - Removed the side chrome trim strips
    - Painted the front tow hooks to match the TRD wheel center caps
    - Tinted the front two windows to match the stock rear tint

    Front.jpg Side.jpg
    Rear.jpg

I'm still waiting on the GOBI Stealth rack w/ rear ladder to be delivered (estimated mid April). I would love to replace the running boards with something a little more "rugged" (sliders or TRD Tundra bars). I've also considered installing Bilstein 5100s and red coils to level out the minor rake in the front. Not sure I want to get into modifying the rear air suspension, so a lift is probably out. I may attempt to modify the PRO Grill LED amber light kit for the Tundra (has anyone done this?). If I go that route I will remove the yellow overlay on the fogs.

Future plan is to replace the stock HU with the largest Pioneer NEX model I can find, but I'm worried about the retaining the integration of the steering wheel controls, REU, etc.

What do ya'll think so far? Any suggestions for running board upgrades, economical suspension upgrades, guidance on the Pioneer 10" HU upgrade, etc. would be greatly appreciated. TIA

    Nice mods, welcome!

I just finished letting someone else know that we upgraded to a pioneer dmh-w4660nex, we lost the rear entertainment system, but that was ok with me. I did a ton of research last year, there isn't an aftermarket head unit that does a dual function like the stock unit.

Did you lose complete functionality or just the ability to control it from the front HU? Ours has a separate disk slot, remote and can be controlled by the kids in the back. We've never actually had to do anything from the front seat HU in order to use the RU headunit.

We lost it completely. What you're describing is the same set up as our 2011.

I like all of the mods besides the attitude black mirror caps and lower grill, it just looks incomplete to me. As for the running boards, I contacted gorhino and they stated that the RB10/20s won't fit although they seem like they would. I would love to do that upgrade as well. Also, I have had a W4400NEX for a few years now and the wireless CarPlay has been my favorite mod thus far. Its only 7" though. The UI is very slow besides the CarPlay so if you intend to use the other features a lot you may want to look at other options. I pretty much exclusively use CarPlay, so it's perfect IMO. Keep us posted on the upgrades...especially the running boards.

After crawling under the Sequoia to see what other parts I can transfer from my DC Tundra. The running board mounting are in the same location. I had not had the chance to install it yet, waiting for the spring or summer to tackle it just incase I have to spend extra time extracting broken bolts.

Ah, so you're saying the two step bar from the DC Pro Tundra or TRD Sport Tundra bolts right up to the Sequoia? Good to know! May have to pick up an extra set of Tundra bars off of Craigslist or FB Marketplace.

Really digging the look of these dominator running boards. They fit the 2018 crew max. What year is your tundra crew Max? They seem to be visually and structurally a good balance between sliders and aftermarket mass produced off road running boards. Do you think they will see it after your observation between the two vehicles?

Tundra Crew Max is a longer cab. It will not fit.

Well damn. But you're thinking the Double Cab Tundra parts will bolt right up based on the mounting points? Is there a certain year of the DC Tundra I should be searching or has the body style remained the same from 2008-2020 like the Sequoia?

Rear TRD Sway Bar comes in tomorrow. How hard is this install? Also, the TRD Pro grill LED light kit from YotaLEDs came in today. Planning on throwing both the sway bar and light kit on tomorrow. Wondering if I should have a shop install the sway bar tho. Thoughts?

You have to drop the exhaust and propeller shaft. Make sure you purchase exhaust nuts, bolts, gasket. You don't want to be stuck with a leaking exhaust due to old gasket and broken bolts.

Unfortunately it ls tucked in underneath those parts. I too did not realized it after the purchase. Thankfully Roman pulled the installation manual and gave me a brief run down.

Got the head unit installed today. I'm impressed, but currently overwhelmed with the amount of features this thing offers.

I got the kenwood DMX 10 inch screen in mine. I like that I am finally able to get tire pressure info on the screen.... When parked and brake on, I can mirror my phone and watch videos. So much better than the stock radio and entune.

Man, loving the upgrade so far. This HU has really boosted the stock JBL system and CarPlay, navigation, calling/responding to texts is so much easier. Expensive, but worth the money to replace the crappy stock HU.

I agree..... It's a great, but $$, upgrade. I like having Waze on a big screen... And yes... The sound is better!!! I do get a pop every once in a while from the speakers. When parked, I use Dex app on my phone and mirror to the screen and watch tv.

I added the Sirius module (but I heard you can tie into the existing antenna and use the sat antenna app). The new module allows me to pause rewind, and alert when favorite after on. Plus album covers!

I ordered through crutchfield..... And not sure if it was just my car, but they had the wiring diagram wrong... But they helped me step by step.

Nice work so far! I like how you did the black grill but white bulge. Gives it a more aggressive larger grill look.

Can you tell what dash kit you bought? Was it the Metra dash kit? If so, did you buy the gloss black, matte black or charcoal? I appreciate it.

That head unit looks amazing, did you lose any functionality of the gauge cluster? Is there any negative to ditching the factory HU?

Crutchfield offered an entire kit with everything needed to retain factory functionality and fitment. The kit included a "matte black" Metra kit. I wanted the Gloss Charcoal because it matched the climate cluster trim below. In the end I had to order the Gloss Charcoal kit separately for $25. There was no way to sub in the Gloss Charcoal version and it was FAR cheaper to order the entire kit (and just buy the extra Metra kit) after going thru and piecing together the individual items within kit.
