I'm just a hack wanna-be, still building my kit.
    Current set-up:
    Sony A7iii
    Sony 24-105 F4 G OSS
    Sony 16-35 F2.8 GM
    Sony Zeiss Batis 85mm F1.8
    Sony 10-400 F4.5-5.6 GM OSS
    Sony 1.4X Teleconverter (for 100-400 / Wildlife)

I like shooting sports, wildlife, astrophotography, a little 'street', and boating/ fishing events.
Switched from Canon to Sony around 5 years ago. Love all brands, just happiest w/ Sony for my uses / needs.

What's in your kit, & what do you like to shoot?

My daughter is looking to get set up with Sony... probably the a7iii as well. She’s played around with our Nikons, and currently has a couple of Canons, plus some old Fuji and Minolta 35mm’s.
Getting ready to sell off our two older D7000 nikons, since my wife just isn’t into it like she used to be... would rather long distance hike where carrying big camera gear just isn’t worth the effort.

Excellent camera . . . check out the Sigma line of lenses specifically for the Sony apsc . . . I think there's 3 . . . 16mm, 30mm, and 55mm . . . great value, solid build quality, and excellent image quality. Look on craigslist/ebay for used copies. Another excellent 'all around' lens for the a6000 series is the Sony EP Z 18-105 F4 . . . arguably the best 'all-around'/ cost effective lens for that camera . . . excellent for 'hybrid-shooting' IE stills+video . . . it has 'power zoom' for smooth zooming. Excellent image quality as well. Get a couple extra batteries, (Wasabi brand are good 3rd party options) . . . battery life on the 6000 series isn't the best . . . not terrible, but not great.

We just got it so we need to start playing with it. Thanks for the tips. I’m sure I’ll be back with some questions soon.

The a7iii is still an excellent camera . . . Sony crushed that market segment when they released it a few years ago. The 'kit lens' it came with was very good for a kit lens. If you/she want(s) to upgrade, I have been super happy/ impressed with the Sony 24-105mm F4 G lens. Lots of people say this is a 'Boring' focal length, but to have that much focal range at a constant F4 aperture, along with programable focus hold buttons, image stabilization, and a manual focus/auto focus switch makes it a compelling option. People say it doesn't do any 1 thing great, but it does a lot of things very good . . . I'd say 'that's the beauty of it'.
Did I mention that it's incredibly sharp?

Well on the plus side for you, their impending obsolescence means Nikon glass will probably get cheaper?

Well, If you want to be technical, everything has obsolescence built into it, except our tundras.

I was referring to the company not their products. They missed the boat on mirrorless and can’t catch up.

i used to have Nikon gear and really liked it but there’s no denying the fact that I’m a much better photographer with mirrorless.

Yeah, I'm aware of mirrorless setups, just wasn't aware of nikon being so far behind...

Have had Canon (for decades), and then Nikon (did not care much for them). Now have an A7RIV. I shot great photos with all of them, but now prefer Sony.

btw, sony's are great. they just don't fit my hands. actually, none of the mirrorless options feel great to me. at the end of the day, it doesn't matter though. understand composition, work the light, look for contrasts. those are what make a great image.

Just picked up a 24mm f1.4 G from Facebook marketplace for $800. I’m trying to build a landscape/adventure photography kit. I currently have a A7II (which I will probably try to sale)

What I still want to get:

    16-35mm f2.8 G
    70-200mm f4
    A7RII
    A7SII

thinking about the the 24-70 f2.8 or f4 but not 100% sold on needing this lens yet. I do have a kit lens: 28-70 f3.5-5.6 that came with the camera. I’m still learning as I go. It’s going to be a hobby but who doesn’t want to turn a hobby into a little side hustle.

I also have a couple filters on order from Polar Pro. Wanting to get N64 and N1000 filter in the near future(boy are they on the pricy side)
