New guy here. Looking forward to the shitshow. Recently upgraded from a 2019 Taco to a 2021 Tundra. My kids in the back seat have thanked me already.

It has the JBL sound system which I've read many of you despise. Honestly, being a long time car audio nerd in a former life, its not bad in the mid and upper ranges. What I'm missing is the deeper bass that I had in my TRD 4x4 Taco with the factory sub.

Apparently... there are subs in the front doors of the tundra. Why they went there and not behind the seat like the taco is BEYOND me and stupid as hell. It really sacrificed low end extension. But thats not the point here.

I'm finding a lot of conflicting information online about what size the front door subs are?? I want to replace/upgrade them with some drivers from Parts Express. Even crutchfield shows both 5 1/4" and 6 1/2" for them. Does anyone know for certain? also the depth available if replacing them?

    Thinking something like this: https://www.parts-express.com/Peerless-SLS-P830945-5-1-4-Paper-Cone-Woofer-4-Ohm-264-1604

I prefer not to go with a full sub addition at this time even though I know that's really the best option. Just want to bolster the low end some without ripping it all apart.

    Thanks in advance.

Hopefully someone with a 2021 JBL system will help you out but I believe you have some bad info - no subs in the doors - just muddy 6x9s. 6.5” components are what is used most often to upgrade/replace them. You could fit smaller speakers for the replacements but I wouldn’t recommend it. A sub from Tech12volts would help your bass. $35 5” speakers won’t improve your sound quality.

Finally got someone from crutchfield to confirm. You are correct, sir. 6x9s in the front doors. Probably just made my decision to add a 10" or two easier. Damn this stupid rabbit hole.

Buy once cry once. I was able to replace everything (HU, speakers, amp) and add 2 JL 10”s with custom box for a just over $2k. If you want to do it in pieces instead of all at once talk to James at Tech12volts and he will help you build a system you can live with that fits your budget.

The "bass" with the JBL sound system leaves A LOT to be desired. My goal is to keep the OEM head unit, use the stock speakers until they blow/deteriorate, use the same speaker wiring and be able to get the music thumping when the family isn't in the truck. After reading a lot of threads and setting a small budget for this project, this is what I want to do.

    3. https://www.amazon.com/Rockford-Fosgate-R2S-1X12-Subwoofer-Enclosure/dp/B0068XYLVC
    4. Autohouseharness for the JBL amp as it is needed to retain the OEM HU. You will need to reach out to AHH and have them make you a custom one, as their website only has the non-JBL harnesses listed. (thread: https://www.tundras.com/threads/tundra-audio-wiring-harnesses-jbl-and-non-jbl.43781/)

This set up should give the audio system a lot more bass with room to upgrade the door speakers to components later down the line. For the door speakers, Hertz components are recommended, but I have a set budget in mind and will install these.

Which Kenwood head unit did you go with?

DMX906S which Kenwood has now updated to the DMX907S.
