So I had the famous rust that was bubbling up my turboliner so I cut it out . Made a mistake and instead of drilling out all the spot welds on the back I cut it out ‍♂️ . Learned that mistake and only drilled out the spot welds on the front main support. The back was definitely worse fist size hole just poking at it with a screwdriver . At first I was going to clean all the rust off the main bed supports and I did that . But the little pieces you can see in the pictures below had rust . I remade those because by the time I cleaned the rust off they ended up being way thin . Plus the main actual bed rail support was all out of square . So I said scrap that and made two new ones out of 3/16 6 inch I beam and cut off one side and cut out the middle and welded back the flat piece . It still needs to be shimmed as it's not exactly how it sit before on the truck . Which is fine . As well I was going to buy new bolts and even made a order but canceled it . $80 ish dollars wtf . So I bought 5/8-11 5" long stainless steel bolts , nuts and washers . I drilled out the holes on the frame and made them bigger and I like this alot more even though you have to have someone hold the washer and nut with a wrench while you hit it with a impact . The threads were all shit on the welded on nuts. I thought about retaping them but decided against it Made 2 new main bed rail supports and also cut out rust where the bottom of the bed is spot welded to the sides and I still need to rip old liner out . I was wondering what liner company I should go with and why . There are a bunch of different ones and even like linex has the uv premium one .
Also Tips For Anyone Wanting to do this

REMOVE ALL BEDLINER IN THE AREA NEAR TO WHERE YOU ARE WELDING AT LEAST 3 INCHES FROM WHERE YOU HAVE CUT OUT. BEDLINER IS TOXIC . IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS IT WILL CATCH ON FIRE AND THE FUMES ARE VERY NASTY .
To remove use a box knife or utility knife and go around about 3 inches from where you cut out and planning on welding and cut. Then you can cut that into smaller pieces and get under it and rip it off with pliers . There are a couple different ways . Look up online and see what way you want to do .

    • To do it properly take the bed off the truck it isnt too difficult. Undo the bed bolts . Then move to the tailgate take the tailgate off. To do so take off the cables . Then shut it about half way and you should be able to lift it up and while holding it walk to the right a bit till the left side comes out as well. Undo the two torque screws holding taillights on and then you will have to be careful because it is still attached with tabs . Pull gently on the side of the taillight near the bed and then pull straight out .Undo the lights they should just twist and pull out . Bring the wires down to the ground . Here is a link to a YouTube video to do so https://youtu.be/kf5FV_ztcRg .Then remove gas door screws and take off gas door . Next get under the truck . Make sure it is in a safe position to do so . Undo any plastic clips that are holding wires underneath the bed if need be .Get a couple of your buddies to come over and lift it off or if you have some sort of hoist or forklift or tractor . At first I did it with the tractor but putting it on It took four of us one on each corner . It is important when taking off and putting on to WATCH THE FILLER NECK FOR THE GAS TANK SO YOU DO NOT BREAK IT . ALSO MAKE SURE YOU ARENT GETTING HUNG UP ON CORDS OR ANYTHING .
    • Depending on how in depth you go . You will want to take off the supports to clean them up as well while it is off the truck . Cut out whatever rust there is and make sure to get all of it and make sure there is good clean metal to weld to . After all 4 corners are cut out flip the bed over if you are removing the supports . If you arent I would weld both on top and bottom . To remove the supports drill out all the spot welds . They will be little divots and you will be able to tell where the are . Once all of them are drilled . Double check that they are . You can use a chisel and a hammer and get under the support and the bed bottom and go around doing this till it pops up. Clean all drill holes on the bottom of the bed so it can be tack welded back . As well as clean around the cut out spots .
    • This will take longer than you think . So if this is you daily driver like mine is you can mount your tail lights basied on what side they go and use good thick zip ties. Set the taillight according to where they go and zip tie around the bumper and across the taillight . Like the picture above . I had no probelm with this and I was like this for probably about a month as I only worked on it 1 or 2 days each weekend .
    • To make replacement pieces basied on how you cut it out . You can use cardboard or paper as a template. I have a picture a above that big long piece . I ended up cutting that up and using it all over . As I had to make the ridge pieces and it isnt flat all the way across. I would tack in pieces as a example to get the side curve where the bottom of the bed curves and goes to the side. I would weld in the piece I cur out using my template and make sure to dry fit it first and then tack it in a couple different places and using pliers or I used crescent wrenches on the other end pull it up toward you and bend it . Tack it where ever it is flush with the OEM bed and keep doing this . Bending it a little at a time as you go . Doing this while the bed is in the normal up position so you can make sure the surfaces with the top are flush . To drill out where the holes go for the bed bolts you can do this once the main support is welded in place or if you didnt remove it just get a punch and punch the middle and start with a small pilot drill bit and move on to the right size or if you want you can keep stepping up till the right size.IMPORTANT make sure pieces are exactly how you want them before you start welding more . Like with the flat cut out pieces where the main rust or hole was use a level and make sure it is straight .
    • When cutting the metal I used a Electric shear similar to a power nibbler . Also used a jigsaw with metal blades. As well as a angle grinder .
    • Flap discs are a huge thing to smooth out welds to get them looking clean and bring them down to the same level. I would use a normal grinding wheel to take the welds down most of the way then use a flap disc . Any spots where little holes or seemed thin tack weld again and repeat the process till you get the desired results . With mine I flipped the bed after going over the top a couple times and welded the bottom a couple .
    • I used 16 gauge sheet metal which is a little bit thicker than what OEM Is but worked out perfect for me . Be careful when bringing down the welds when grinding OEM metal as like I said it is thinner and then you'll have to end up repairing more holes .
    • For painting when you are done with the bottom use any paint or undercoat you want . I'll be applying por15 and trying that out .
Thank you for reading this long ass write up and if you have any questions feel free to comment or message me . As well as the pictures arent in order just scattered. I know it wasnt 100% perfect and factory . If your bed is extremely bad you can hunt around to see if you can find one first . Also was really my first time using a mug welder . Learned alot and from all the welding I am pretty good now. Wasnt just me doing it all my cousin helped alot with welding as well .

I don't have an opinion on what liner to put back on, other than whatever it currently has you may be able to just have it touched up with the same stuff (my plan). BUT awesome work tackling this job. It's on my to do list so any more pictures and tips you have of your process would be very helpful. Drilling out the spot welds to pull off the support first is smart, I was going to just cut from the bed side as well but will change my plan now.

Leveled, wheels and tires, Line X on the grille surround and bulge, Line X in the bed, Retrax rolling Tonneau cover, Flowmaster Outlaw cat back exhaust.
My Line X spray in bedliner seems to be holding up well. Liked it so much I did Line X on the grille and hood bulge to 1) delete the chrome and 2) protect from rock chips etc. Line X has the UV protection stuff too. Good luck!

Raptor Liner seems to be the latest and greatest. I had a friend just raptor liner his entire Chevrolet Avalanche. He had the raptor liner tinted to the original OEM color. It's a matte finish vice glossy, but it looks real nice and is holding up really well. He's gotten 7 requests to raptor liner other people's cars since.

Bullet Liner - see if anyone in your area offers this product

is just as good or better than Line-X and it was invented by the same guy who invented Line-X (Claudio Burtin)

I'm happy with my Line-X liner but I would take a look at all the brands in your area and go with the dealer who gets the best reviews. Quality of the install is going to matter more than which specific product you go with.

As to the UV protection, I didn't shell out for that because I have a canopy but it could make sense if your bed is open and sitting in the sun a lot.

I went with LineX when I got my first gen bedlined.
My option was have a local shop use Speedliner which seemed like a great product but pricing was high and warranty was up to the individual shop, not guaranteed by the manufacturer. I found a LineX shop about an hour away that did this all day everyday. The pricing was about $150-$200 cheaper even with gas, and has lifetime warranty at any LineX dealer.
My use is limited as I'm not in construction and so I'm not worried about beating the liner beyond its limits. I also live at 6,000 feet and UV protection is a consideration. The shop tech I spoke with said he's never had anyone with the liner failing due to sun exposure. He said his black truck bed is a bit more charcoal or dark grey after 10 years and never parking in a garage.

Wow. I really admire your work in restoring the bed. Would it not be easier to get another bed from some junkyard?

It would all depend what you could find. I'm sure most will be as bad locally. If you found a nice one you would probably still end up repainting the entire thing to match the rest of the truck. Here all you're doing is respraying with new lining material inside the bed. I looked around and found one at a yard the same color but it was dented on the outside worse than mine and they still wanted over $2K for it.

He is doing waaay more than just relining his bed. But 2 grand is alot of money. At first, I was thinking maybe only $500-$700 for a second generation bed.

Yes I did leave out mentioning the repair in my post but my point was that he doesn't need to repaint a mismatched bed which can easily run a thousand for good paint job.
I haven't looked too recently for a bed but none were to be found on my local CL when I did look.

Yeah I wanted the experience of fixing it and I honestly didnt have to go this in depth but I wanted to get rid of all the rust I could find . Tundra parts are hard to come by . Very rarely do they show up and like you said would have to be painted if it wasnt the same color . Also would probably end up doing this .

Thank you .Wouldnt be able to find then tundra parts are rarely listed around here and they dont stay up for sale long. Also like bleach said if it wasnt the same color and would be 2k or more . Also would probably have this probelm or end up doing this. I didnt have to go this in depth but I wanted to make sure all the rust was gone .

I had line x in my gmc for 16 years and it held up well. I put bullet liner in my tundra last year and like it every bit as well. It is cheaper than the line-x, probably because it is newer.
