Has anybody tried to replace the factory radio in their base (non-SR5) model similar to the one linked below with a same year factory radio with a Info-GPS-TV screen also linked below? I want to have the screen but don't want to buy an after market radio. I want to make sure that the factory harness is the same and that all the functions will work like the original radio. Any help is appreciated.

The one pictured in that link as "potential replacement" doesn't look like a Tundra touchscreen GPS/navi.

And if I remember correctly...all the factory GPS radio came with JBL system. So if yours did not have JBL, it's not a simple plug and plug. But to be honest, the original GPS radio is not that great. What features are you looking for in a new radio? I know you prefer the factory, but you're probably better off with an aftermarket that can offer lots more.

I was afraid of that. I am mostly looking to have a screen to connect into the factory backup camera wiring. I have read on other posts that the wiring is there, just needs the head unit, not sure if thats true or not. I am willing to buy the factory camera for the tailgate as well. I don't want to spend a crazy amount on the setup (no more than $300) and preferably keep the camera in the dash and not in the overhead as I have seen some folks do. Do you or anybody else know of a aftermarket head unit that would add a screen / backup camera for under $300? Thanks

Hey, sorry to hijack a thread butttt: I have a factory non-JBL stereo that after putting jumper cables on the battery started blasting static. There is no way to stop it without pulling the fuse. I have tried replaceing the head unit with another factory one, and I have tried replacing the media controller unit. Toyota has put a scanner on the truck and found no issues. Has anyone seen something like this before?

    1 or 2... I lost count
Little late to the party but, I used a cheap head unit similar to this one but not exact. There are a lot of different listings. Then I bought a car play adapter and a USB port that plugs into one of the dash blanks. Completely plug and play into the factory harnesses, BUT, I only have half of my steering wheel buttons (volume up/down and prev/next track). The software lets you rebind all the buttons and I could splice into the harness and make the other buttons work but it was not worth it to me. Carplay adapter works flawlessly and can be hidden behind the dash inline with the USB port that I opted to use. All in, I'm right around the $300 mark. It does not have the fancy features that the expensive units will come standard with but it works and I really liked that I did not need a dash kit since those always look like afterthoughts in my opinion.

I never wanted to change factory stereo. I just wanted to keep all the functions and enhance the sound. Putting everything that I did I am more than happy and impressed with the outcome.
