So I got a new toy in January and wanting to ceramic it this spring or summer. 90% of the whole thing is plastic and trim the remaining being decals. I want to cerakote ceramic it, but like I've read here, needs to be 100% perfectly clean. What's the best prep to use to get it clean that doesn't leave a residue or film? And I'm guessing you don't want to apply the cerakote in the sun either?

i washed my trim with a degreasing soap (dawn) 2x's to make sure there wasn't anything left on it. I had never put in kind of dressing on them, so I wasn't too worried. Then blew water out the crevices to make sure no water would drip onto the plastic and mess it up. prep wasn't difficult, but just make sure you don't have other dressings or water and you should be fine. I applied in the shade in my garage, but don't know if applying in the sun would affect it or not.

I've used Optimum Power Clean (All purpose cleaner) at 3:1.....also used CarPro Eraser with similar results. You basically want the surface to be as clean as possible to allow the coating to bond.

I just did the Mrs suv yesterday and was happy with how it turned out. I used purple degreaser and scrubbed a bit, followed by water rinse then let dry, went over with alcohol spray and as soon as that dried I coated. So far so good.

Wash and clean as normal. Then use Duplicolor paint prep spray or use an alcohol solution diluted down to about 12-15% alcohol to distilled water to wipe down the panels just before coating them.

Just clean the hell out of it, make sure it’s 100% dry. Maybe use Eraser or something. You’d probably be fine in the sun this time of year, it’s the heat that’s the problem. Even then I’m not sure it would affect Cerakote like it does other things.

Do you need to apply a ceramic coating over the top to add longevity or is it a stand alone? I know it says ceramic, but not sure if adding say beadlocker or cquarts would be a good idea.

no need. after i applied i walked away and let it cure (over night). next time i washed it about a week later the water was beading off like it had a ceramic coating or wax applied to it. it still does and i haven't applied it in months. it claims 200+ washes, and it's holding up well enough for mine to think it will last a couple years

Same thing Andy said. Complete standalone product.
