Does anyone here use Zoom to watch webnars? I managed to get zoom installed on my Linux, but using it locks up computer most of the time. I ve found that even going to their website is hit and miss. It doesn t let me run ad blockers, and if I do have adblocker ultimate running it locks up my puter just like the ap does.

I use zoom a lot for work. I however am running it on Win10 and over Firefox. Zoom can use a lot of memory and CPU. if it's locking up, that would be my guess. That or the adblocker. You could try adding an exception for zoom in that. I don't know what flavor of Linux you're running, but if you monitor CPU and memory when firing up zoom, that might give you an idea about that angle. Are you using the browser plugin, or the stand alone app? If you're using one of those, try the other. See if that works.

I haven't had any issues with Zoom on my computer (also running Windows 10) but I don't really have any advice for you to troubleshoot it, unfortunately.

The actual people running zoom don’t like Linux, TOR, Brave, VPN’s or anything else that prevents them from the Facebook levels of data they are collecting on you. You are like Neo. They hate you.

My former company was using the corporate version of Zoom, which they told us was all encrypted and locked down and thus their data was safe. Interestingly, we were not allowed to use Microsoft Teams and one of our main consultants was not allowed to use Skype/Lync or Zoom so meetings with them got to be a struggle.

my most locked down customers tend to prefer webex, or their own home-brew secured meeting app.

Ive used zoom on debian and ubuntu and havent had a perceived problem unless screen sharing and trying to navigate many windows. I perfer jitsi, for me it runs much smoother.

Yes, be careful with Zoom. It has foreign investment money.

I ve done some digging, and you are correct. This site is an eye opener. I never thought about it before, but there s a buttload of folks who use this app, and it does have a scandalous past. I removed the app, and am installing the browser extension instead. Hopefully I can get it running properly.
