Replacing the power steering pump today. Bolted the new one in and have a question regarding the return hose fitting.

Old pump: Has the shiny male connector for the return hose.
    [IMG]2021-02-05_04-01-29 by GhostCreekMine, on Flickr

New Pump: Doesn't have it, but there's a hole where the connector goes, I assume it's a pressure fit. Can I re-use the old connector? If so... how do I remove it from the old pump?

That elbow with the fitting is bolted onto the pump. A 10mm bolt holds it onto the pump. Clean the grime off and you’ll see what I’m talking about. Technically you should use a new o-ring, but.....

One more quick question. Pretty sure I've got this right but need to know for sure... because steering is important. Manual says discard old "sealing washers" and replace with new. New copper ones (pictured) came with the new pump. By "sealing washers" I'm assuming they mean the part I have sitting on the manual (referred to as "gasket" in the manual). Correct?

The “U” shaped gasket/seal thing is the factory part, Don’t reuse that. The copper crush washers in the baggy are the replacement. One on each side of the Banjo fitting. Although I see you have 4 total, it’s only one on each side.

Yeah, they included two of the correct diameter and two that were smaller... for an alternate vehicle application I'm sure. Thank you again.

Nothing quite like getting a good Swerve On. Swerve to Serve.

@Glock 40 what brand is your new Pump?

Cardone new, not rebuilt... from rockauto. I think it was about $135, can't remember exactly. The fluid is pretty nar nar so I'm gonna have to give it a good flush. I found out that the previous owner added "power steering fluid" instead of Dex/Merc ATF.... DOHHHH! It's a yucky mix. About to start digging for a write-up on flush. Truck is sitting on the lift now waiting for my rear axle to get back so it's a good time for me to take care of this.

Open up that old Pump and post some pics if you don’t mind.

I’ve never seen one opened up before. Curious about the ‘Impeller Vanes’. Might be where my Power Steering Boogers started.

Not having much luck with the search feature finding a write-up on steering flush. Any advice much appreciated. Youtube vids on this are so-so... I don't want to have to buy a Mityvac. Should be a pretty easy process. I think the only remaining nar nar is in the rack now.

I’m interested in this as well as I’ve only did the turkey baster technique which definitely doesn’t get much out.

This vid on Youtube shows a way that uses a clear vinyl tubing as the bleed off. Have to jerry rig it to the line but I like the visual of the clear tubing so you can tell when the donkey blood has been replaced with tiger blood.

I did that exact process and it worked like a charm. I cycled through about 1.5 quarts of new Dex IV fluid and it was coming out clean.

Perfect! I didn't want to use a socket like the dude in the vid did. That looks easy enough to rig. Have a small Ace and a Murdoch's up here so should be able to find it. Thanks!

Don’t bother with a turkey baster. Napa sells an item similar to a baster that will fit the reservoir perfectly and let you get 90-95% of the fluid out.

    part:
    Napa 700-1155 filler -
    battery type
