A few years in the slam with likeminded criminals, on the public dime, does seem inadequate. I think some countries still cut off their hand of if caught stealing.

I've had the occasional credit card usage but someone having your SSN number and all other info is another level.

I think I'd be searching for a new CC company or something. The last time my CC somehow got hacked (by a skimmer), the company called *ME* to let me know it happened. They automatically put a hold on that card, FedEx'd a new one overnight to be (with a new #), and told me to make sure that I got everything changed over - AND even told me that any late fees or such resulting from issues related to the hack would be covered.

Bunch of different facets here, I'd like to look at one closer. The first place I start in an investigation like this is to follow the money.

After the first $600, was your account closed and a new one created?

Get on your bank, as the victim, and demand to have all the facts. Where did the money go and how was it taken or transferred. There are a bunch of ways. This might help you identify the area of concern.

I would but it’s a govt cc and Citibank has the contract. I used to travel all over the world for my job and went through around 5 credit cards where the number was stolen. This was just the most outrageous example.

My dads info got scammed recently. They got $900 out of unemployment from him(he’s been retired for years, so not sure how that works). Super annoying to deal with

Just skimmed the thread, but you can create accounts with the credit bureaus and freeze your credit as well.

    https://clark.com/credit/credit-freeze-and-thaw-guide/

Here’s a trusted site you can read about, then link to ‘freeze’ your credit. No it won’t protect cards you have but will prevent anyone from starting an account in your name.

With current cards, set up ‘alerts’ to when the card is used without being present, & other conditions.
