14 double cab TSS 178,000 miles runs like new

    Hi All,
    I figured I should join a group like this since I now have 178k on my 14' TSS Double cab I bought new. I've recently decided to keep her (instead of trading) and see how far I can go. The truck runs like new. I took her in at the scheduled tranny service and my mechanic said the fluid is like new. I was surprised as I pulled a 31' fifth wheel camper around the country (I avoided mountain passes) for many, many miles. I also haul a side-by-side (~1100 lbs) fairly often (I use a custom hitch extender to keep all the weight off the tailgate). I hit a deer and decided to go with the brush guard bumper for the replacement, then later matched it with a rear bumper. I installed super spring leaf assists (versus air bags) and it solved the problem of all that weight when hooked up to the fifth wheel and hauling the SxS. By the way, the ride isn't rough with these. I no longer pull the fifth wheel. I decided to give the truck a break and sold it. The only issue I have had is the horn quit working. Toyota said 500 bucks. I said, it can wait but I am starting to realize the safety risk so going to have it done soon. I had to replace the tailgate after my "spotter" said I was "good to go" backing up a utility trailer with the tailgate down. I have some minor dings in the body, but I think she still looks good. I'll post some pics of my hitch extender soon, as some might want to copy my design. Just ordered a soft topper and bed rack. I look forward to installing that. Here's to many more miles!     Welcome from MS. Nice DC. Kept my last truck for 12 years and still have it with 286k mi and have passed it to the son. It is still going strong. I plan to keep this one a while too. Part of me cant wait until I get to the more utility stage of owning this one. Nothing like a solid paid off vehicle!
