Bought Tacoma Feb 8 2016. Bought trailer April 2016. Towed i think 4 times last summer. Did pretty good for trailer being at max capacity of tacoma. But were planning on doing more camping this summer. So we traded the Tacoma for the tundra last Saturday.

It has always made me wonder why that Vector isn't in an enclosed race car hauler. Looks like you have taken all the precautions to protect your irreplaceable vehicle while towing on the flatbed. I'm sure there is a reason, just wondering why.

I really like the white truck/Vector and aluminum trailer. Looks great!

The honest reason is cost. I cant justify the expense of a custom enclosed trailer. I am particular about what I wanted and because of the design of the Vector, you have to do some very custom things to an enclosed trailer to make her fit. The long lead in creates a problem with loading ramps, so you have to do an extended door $ price goes up. You have to have a beaver tail built in to the trailer, option 2 price goes up. You can not fit it between wheel wells so you have to have ramps over wheel wells option 3 price goes up, You now sit higher in the trailer so you can no longer swing the doors open, so you have to raise the trailer height by 18" to clear the door, option 4 price goes up. Because the car is so wide and you now are able to open the door, but you are only two inches from the walls of the trailer you cant get out of the car, option 5 road side door, price goes up. Throw in cabinets, lighting so you can see well enough at night to load and unload, along with cabinets, a generator and a couple of other odds and ends and a 32' Pace American Shadow GT trailer quickly becomes a $55000 investment to have sitting around 99% of the time as I typically do 3 car shows a summer. As it was the aluminum open trailer I have was completely custom built just for the Vector and may not be considered completely road legal due to its extreme width it set me back $14000 20 years ago. I don't know if there are any companies that would tackle that job again. The company that built it for me now just builds canned trailers. They no longer do the extreme custom work that they did back then. So I am happy to have it. I can single handedly load and unload the car at shows and its a dream to haul with.

So that is the long enclosed trailer saga, or the lack there of.

    @Vector W8 ,

You should do an informational thread on this car. Everyone likes a turbo V-8, let alone a twin turbo 1200 hp beast (can't remember if it is compound or bi-turbo design).

The story was pretty cool and disappointing at the same time.

That's an awesome looking trailer. What are the specs? I want to buy one, and need some ideas on what I should get.

I like this unit. Its a 2016 Heartland Torque 27T toy hauler.
    Onan gen set
    2 A/Cs
    27 ft
    GVWR 10,000 lbs
    King bed
    Fuel station
    LED lighting
    Wired for solar
    Power awning
    Etc.

I am running Firestone air bags, with no toys in the back there is a lot of tongue weight. With the air bags and WDH the Tunny tows it like a champ

How soon are those going under the Tundra? Going with 52" or 66" tires on them?

After I buy mine, it will be hauling this package except the box blade and shredder will be replaced by the 60" mower deck and the backhoe option. Shouldn't be a problem for the 5.7, right?00505_3DW6T4Cj1ip_1200x900.jpg

Pulled a 33' Passport. No problem towing, but had fits with swaying on the freeway. Also, maxed out on cargo weight for the truck. Hope you've had better luck!

Awesome! What model is your Deere? I'm going with the aluminum trailer instead to save some weight. I'm considering the 1025R TLB so I need to understand the difference between the 3025 and 1025...

How do you go about hooking up your trailer? Sequence with the WDH and Airbags?
I am looking to add the airbags and need to know which comes first.

It's actually my parents, I was using it to grade my yard and do some back fill work while I was building my house. It's a 3320. Hydrostatic drive, power steering and like air ride seat, its awesome! When funds begin shaping up again since the build, I will be looking for one of my own.

If I were you, I would spring for the 3025. Not sure what your purpose for it would be but having the extra power over the 1025 would be nice.

    Please elaborate?
I would need to fill up airbags and then tune my WDH or hook up WDH and then add air. If I add air after I would minimize the WDH effectiveness, correct?
This would put a lot more pressure on the front wheels?
Just trying o make sure money is well spent on the airbags.

    Thanks for the assistance.

A properly set up WDH should not need airbags, but if you need a little more stability, hook up your camper/hitch first and then add as little air in the bags as necessary.

    Tow safe.

Maybe for a 3/4 ton domestic truck the above is true but for the tundra this advice is wrong and I am speaking from experience.
hook up with WDH then add air to the bags to get the ride height you want. WDH only transfers SOME of the weight to the front wheels. even with my WDH properly set up I still had massive sag in the rear. You need both if you are near the tundra max capacity. IMO every thing on the tundra is 3/4 ton duty (brakes, axles, frame, rear end, bearings, etc.) but just like the Tacoma the rear springs are the weak link.

I know, trust me...I owned a Tundra....and many other Toyota vehicles (currently). Rear leaf springs, shocks, and some brake rotors just suck ass. Totally agree. (and......something people should consider when buying a truck)

There is nothing on the Tundra that is 3/4 ton, we need to really stop saying that and giving false information. The front brakes are pretty damn good. No argument in this department, but they are also no where near as beefy as a 3/4-1 ton braking system. Rear axles are not even in the same category since the Tundra is a semi-float axle (light duty) and medium duty trucks have a Full Floating axle. No comparison on weight capacity and strength. The front axle is in now way anything more than a light duty axle. I did prove that and know the exact day I started the demise of mine. It was towing, up a hill, in 4lo, since the truck lacked the torque to get my camper up a dirt road that had a hill.

I'm not saying nobody doesn't need them, and in your case, since you are about tapped out on capacity and tongue weight (if not over) most likely is a requirement to even look safe.

All I am saying, look at the setup and maybe start questioning what your doing.

I always enjoy reading on multiple forums how half tons are pulling at max capacity and it never fails "tows it like a champ".....or "don't even know it is back there"... For me, that just tells me they don't know any better and have never actually used something that's sole purpose is for towing and work. It is like comparing rafting down the Grand Canyon and a kiddy pool.

    2014 Red Tundra CM SR5
My small travel trailer is only 4500 lbs, about 600 lbs tongue weight. I feel it back there when I tow. I have WDH and it does not get all the weight evenly split front/rear. I think some of this is due to setup (still adjusting it) and some of it is limitation of the Tundra and the WDH hitch itself. Agree that if you are at or close or over the max, then the WDH can only help so much. Airbags may help, but I don't know if it actually helps or if it makes it look better. Kinda like lipstick on a pig.
