Both my regular cab shorty 4x4s were 5400lbs stock empty. Gvwr is 6800.

My 87 Chevy C20 crew cab long bed is 6000. My 95 F150 reg cab long bed 4x4 i think was 4400 or somewhere around there. The 03 S10 i had before that was 3300.

Tundras and newer trucks are heavy pigs compared to old stuff.

My tundra is heavy lol... with just me, a full tank of gas, and a deck on the back ( 250 pounds ) my weight at the scales came in at 7080. Dont know why its so heavy other than the deck tho. Trucks pretty well stock other than a trd skid plate, and 34" tires and rims. Running boards as well I guess. Either way it definitely caught me off guard

Mine is 5930 bone stock with a full tank of gas according to the door jamb. You probably added 120 lb in tires, potentially more if the rims weigh more than the OEM rims, 250 for the deck (does this mean the Decked drawer system? If so, you would have to count whatever you’re carrying inside of it, too). TRD skid is probably 80 lb, running boards could be another 60 lb.

It adds up fast. My only real gripe with my truck.

Bringing this thread back as I finally hit a scale today.

sticker says curb weight should be 6,000 with GVWR of 7,200.

    additional equipment -
Stereo - Kenwood HU, front and rear components, 5 channel amp, sub box with 2 10” subs

Tools - under-seat storage mod with Viair compressor, bolt cutters, hatchet, hand tools, flashlight, rain gear, etc. In bed - 60” hi lift, bed mat, recovery bag with rope, strap, shackles, etc.

OffRoad mods - RCI alum engine and trans skids, RCI gas tank skid, WKOR sliders, Demello front bumper, 10k lb winch, 3 sets of Baja Designs pods, one 30” LED light bar, moose knuckle recovery shackles, 34” tires, Billy 6112/5160 suspension, full size spare, Ham radio

With a full tank of gas and me we were at 6,980. Need to put wheel bearings on my maintenance schedule.

This is what keeps me from going ham on mods. Well, that and the fact that I’m really not the type to bolt a bunch of crap to my truck.

Completely loaded to the gills with all five of us, the dog, dual battery setup, Dometic fridge, ESP long box, 10 gallons of water, engine and cat skids, skinny 35 LTs, and our camping gear, I’m at 7200-7400 lb.

Got a 2014 Limited dbl cab 2wd. Sticker says 1490 with a 48lb reduction (probably for the bed liner). Put it on the scale with me (220lbs) sitting in it 5540. GVWR is 6900. Doing the math the sticker payload should be 1580, 140lbs more than advertised. Guess I lucked out.:woot:

Yikes. I haven't weighed my truck yet but I was hoping that's what it weighs with a spray in bed liner, canopy and RSB...

Forgot to mention the spray in bedliner. That Leer can't weigh much more than 1x pax, right?

My guess was probably 50 lbs but I can't remember where I got that number from.

    :monocle:

I thought it was only the third gens that had the payload understated on the sticker.

Toyota's been hamstringing us from the beginning. It's just that no one bothered to check until 3rd gen buyers were incredulous that Toyota barely moved the payload needle at all.

Doesn’t payload rating usually account for a 150lb driver and a full tank of gas, or did I make that up? Or maybe that used to be how they were rated or something.

I don't have the truck at the moment, but I'll double check the numbers when I get it back.
I wanna say GVWR is 7000 and the curb weight is 5180.
    That's 1820 payload.
I removed the 60 portion rear seat and front center fold down console seat to replace with storage. That was a few pounds in savings. I'll take it to a scale at some point and get an actual weight.
But, I feel good about 1800 lbs of payload for a half ton. Even with me, the wife, both dogs and 500 lbs of gear/shit, I still have about 1000 lbs to spare for tongue weight, or more shit.

That's the SAE towing capacity standard.

The language on the door jamb is “occupants and cargo must never exceed XXXX lbs”. Since driver is an occupant and fuel isn’t cargo, you’d think the payload number would simply be:

[GVWR] - [curb weight of the truck with no one in it and a full tank of gas]

But then again the SAE J2807 standards make allowances for a driver, so it seems a little bit contradictory.

Some of the 3rd gen owners are finding they have 200+ lb more available payload than what the door jamb says.

My 2000 4x4 AC TRD OR Limited with a full tool box weighed 4840 at the dump. If the dump you go to charges you based on weight, the scale must be certified by state DOT or similar dept. of weights and measures. GVWR for my truck is 6050#, so I've got 1200# of payload left. I think I may have had a passenger with me, not sure if the tank was full or not.

If I take all the beers out of my Dometic fridge, I can get it down to GVWR.
