    THE HALL OF FAME REMEMBERS
    PHIL NIEKRO

    upload_2020-12-28_13-39-31.jpg

Master of the knuckleball and a great leader, mentor and friend, Hall of Famer Phil Niekro passed away at the age of 81. In 24 seasons in the majors, Niekro recorded 318 victories over the course of 5,404 innings - the most of any pitcher who began his career in the live ball era. After his playing career ended, he managed the Colorado Silver Bullets, an all-women baseball team. Click here to reflect on Knucksie's legacy on and off the field.

RIP. His grip was my preferred one when I chucked the knuck.

Hammerin' Hank is an icon in baseball. I was a junior in high school when he was closing in on the home run record and still remember the excitement when he broke the Babe's record. Hank wasn't just a home run hitter though. A career .305 average and almost 4000 hits. And, he was true gentleman. I still remember all of the death threats that he and his family got as he chased the record. Hard to imagine having to deal with that every day at your place of work. He held his head high and went about his business. Just incredible.
