Do they mean the FRAME or the bed supports? Bed floor and be support rust is a pretty common issue on 2nd gens (and from my quick search apparently some 3rd gens now too)

Options to fix this are find a non-rusty bed, buy a new entire bed floor and supports, separate bed sides and attach to new floor, or cut out rust and weld in patch panels.

If they mean the actual frame then you might have missed the frame inspection - spray or replace campaign.

    Frame was sprayed previously
He said rusted where frame rails support the bed, bed looked good to me when plastic drop in was removed
Truck only has 41,000 miles on it so really don’t want to get rid if it considering the price of new ones I have been looking at

Usually the bed doesn't look too bad because it works its way up from the bottom to the top. My linex is bubbled/blistered around the bed bolts on my 07 and it'll be getting pulled off to replace bed support rails and patch panels on the floor in the spring.

If you are really concerned, try looking up camper shell and flat bed dealers in the are. A lot of times they have a bed on their showroom floor just to stage a truck cap that they will let go for cheap.

Funny story, backed into a stall at the hospital years ago to visit with my mom. When I left, I forgot that I was parked next to a huge cement wall. I made a hard right to turn out of my spot, F350 lifted 6" with 37". I couldn't bring myself to look at it until I got home. The next day I called a few truck cappers in town and within an hour I had a replacement bed for $300. The guy was happy to get rid of it since it was a long bed. It took up too much room on his show room floor.

If it is really flaking maybe a problem, depends. I have used some really old and roughed up trucks well beyond their days. As long as the bed is not likely to fly off while driving I would spray a little undercoating on it and roll on with my business.
