Looking to get the fluids done on the diffs and transfer case. What works or what’s best out there without having to go through dealership? The more specific, the better. Thanks.

I bought all Toyota fluids and did it myself. Got fluids off Amazon. Transfer case fluid was expensive. The rest was nominal.

    Transfer - LF version, 75W
    Diffs - LT version, GL5 75W-85

Just make sure and use a 75w in the t-case, otherwise pretty mundane.

I used some mobile 1 75W, there are some good discussions about it, I'll try to find it

Just about everyone on here are going to push Toyota fluids.

These are always readily available and cheaper.

    Diffs: Amsoil Severe gear 75w-90
    Transfer Case: Ravenol MTF-3 75W

I don't recommend the toyota fluids, they're overpriced. Mobile 1 has done perfectly fine for me

I am using Ravenol Fluid, MTF-3 for the Transfer Case and MTF-1 for the Differentials. Using Mobil1 for the engine and Toyota OEM for ATF and Engine Coolant.

Would you happen to have the part numbers for drain and fill crush washers for the diffs and T-case?

Both of our diffs are open so you don’t need anything special. Just stay within spec.

I used the Amsoil severe gear in the differentials.
I used the Toyota stuff in the T case. Yup it is expensive at $55 a liter but it comes in the cool old school can. I swap these fluids at 50k so only do it every five years or so.
While I don’t think the Ravenol will do any harm there are a number of reports of less than smooth shifts into 4wd and some folks not engaging without turning the wheel to one side a bit.

I have used the Ravenol for 10 years now, no issues at all.

Great point about the transfer case especially with the recommendation about 10 miles of 4WD per month from Toyota. Maybe a premium in the t-case is worth it.

As for the diffs, I have only seen stringent specs when limited slip mechanics are involved.

I have heard of many folks having no issues. I just know my luck so figure I’ll spend a few bucks more. I only do about 10k a year so it is not a big deal. If I did a bunch more mileage I might give it a go.

I just wanted to correct my post - lately I have been using the Kirkland Signature Full Synthetic from Costco rather than Mobil1. Normally $25 for two 5-qt jugs now on sale for $21. Good reviews on Bobistheoilguy.com

Where did you get that information. I went through 2020 Tundra maintenance schedule and up to 120,000 miles and none of them mentioned that we have to change out difs and transfer case fluids. Toyota onle mentioned inspect the difs and transfer cace fluids. I normally do it every 100,000 miles on my other vehicles but I don't think we need to change them out.

This is for special operating conditions, though. Many people who have Tundras don't tow, haul, or have a car topper, so according to the schedule there is no need to change those fluids in that situation.

While this may not be all of us, it is something to note.
