Looking for an awesome boat forum that they recommend. I'm in Colorado, looking to be a first-time boat owner of a vessel that will tow the water skiers & do some lake fishing.

It wasn’t over it but was close. You could definitely tell it was behind you and would want to suddenly have to swerve. Tacoma wasn’t a happy camper going up hill also ha.

Let's see some mods you boaters!

Here's my latest. A sliding shelf to hold a Costco 32 quart, 12v/AC, portable, compressor fridge. Slides out from under the helm seat for easy access from the galley.

Easy enough to snatch out of there to use it in the truck.

Back in my boating adventure thread I had mentioned the Mrs. distain for the milk crate I secure to the foredeck to hold our anchor rode and chain. "Ghetto" is the term she is fond of using.

Soooo, in an attempt to "De-Ghetto" the Desert Dory I bought a windlass to take care of the anchor launch/retrieval duties with a touch of a button from right there in the helm seat.

This week I got started on the install of this beautiful piece of boat jewelry.

Step 1: Spend lots of time drinking beers and contemplating whether or not you want to cut a big friggen hole in your boat.

Step 2: Drink NO beer and commit to cutting a big friggen hole in your boat.
    IMG_20210101_120038461.jpg

Step 3: YOU DID IT!!! Breath deep and drink lots of beers again.

Step 4: Dig out balsa deck coring and seal/backfill all holes with thickened epoxy resin.
    IMG_20210101_150611748.jpg

Step 5: Drink more beers while epoxy cures then, when sobered up again, redrill the holes you already drilled once.

Step 6: Mount the jewelry to the deck, enjoy beers and accolades from the Mrs, dream about the beers you're going to enjoy out on the lake playing with your new toy.

Hey, should I sell mine while prices are high? I feel like we have a pandemic boat price bubble. I want to get a 22’ with cabin to cruise around Puget Sound. I figure I can sell it for what I paid 8 years ago. (Disclaimer, not trying to sell it here). What do you think?6E944AE8-44C7-4986-B52A-04358CDF8DA2.jpg

    Sell that sucker!!!

We bought our C-Dory 22' a year and a half ago and absolutely love it. Very versatile, and perfect for what we want to do now, which is spend time on it cruising.

Finally broke down and sold the 16' Klamath CC fishing boat a few months ago. It was a great boat too. Here it is hauling a load of crap out to a houseboat on lake Oroville a couple of years ago. The new owner has been going to town on getting it fixed up to his liking.

Yeah, that’s a nice looking boat. Have always liked the look of cdory, sea sport, and the like. How many horses are you running with? I like the enclosed cabin. I will likely do more cruising than fishing so wouldn’t need lots of deck space. Could be pretty comfortable in that on Puget sound even on winter days. The cargo rack is a nice idea too.

It has a 90 ETEC on the back. Cruise at 25 mph getting 5 mpg. Your right, not a lot of cockpit space but plenty for me and the Mrs to be comfortable.

There are quite a few of them up your way. We're actually planning to do a trip up to the San Juans for a couple of weeks this summer.

My best friend lives in Oak Harbor on Whidbey Island right in that area. I’m sure he could point out some of the local places to see if you’re interested. Deception Pass State Park is one of the most beautiful places I’ve seen in my life - especially for a desert kid.

Thanks Adam! I appreciate the offer and will probably take you up on that. It's always nice to get some local knowledge when visiting a new area. I've seen a couple videos of boats trying to get thru that pass during a tide change. Doesn't look like a lot of fun.

One of my best friends from high school lives up there somewhere (works for Boeing) but I haven't had any contact with him for 20+ years. My have to try and track him down too.

It would be hard to go wrong anywhere up there. I’ve only been to Orcas island by ferry. There are a couple nice harbors on Orcas. Friday harbor on San Juan island is good for a day I hear (might do a walk on ferry trip this weekend). A lot of places that are only boat accessible too; lots of state park docks and mooring bouys.

That sounds pretty economical. One guy on you tube in Oregon has twin 50’s on his - but seems like one is better these days for economy and maintenance because they are so reliable. I was curious if 90 was adequate or 115 would be better or just added weight. I think the most fuel I have used on my little smokercraft in a season was 5 gallons of fuel (mainly cause I don’t use it much, but also it is never thirsty even at WOT).

Super Fun boat to run on the colorado river. I added a 5" manual jackplate, with a 4-blade stainless steel prop I can run in some really shallow water.

Yeah, not bad for a boat. We have it loaded down pretty good when we go out too.

Much like the suspension threads on here there is endless debate on single vs twins. When we bought ours it happened to be a single. If it had twins, I would be fine with that too. Having said that, once I retire and we start doing more remote cruising I'll add some kind of kicker to the back for some "just in case" insurance.

Our boat is a 1989 version. At that time they were rated up to 90hp. Sometime in the '90's (I think) they bumped the rating to 115hp. Lots of owners, even with older boats like mine, have gone to a 115 without issue. Our engine only has about 130ish hours on it so I think (hope?) it'll be awhile before we're looking at a repower.

Finally found a picture of my Tundra pulling my boat, back in 2006. I was on my way to a fur trade rendezvous, camping out, and canoeing over by Williston, North Dakota. Most of the others on the Boat Owners BS thread have motorboats, not so many canoes, but there are hundreds of these replica birchbark voyageur canoes around. Mine will carry 2,800 pounds* and 4 to 8 people & has been paddled in 7 states.

[IMG]Boat fuel tank question. I'm installing this 17 gallon fuel cell on my pontoon boat. My boat came with a carb compliant 6 gallon portable fuel tank that expands to 2 times is normal size because its unvented. This tank would be in a rear compartment where the current fuel tank is now. so here's my question just to make sure I'm not missing something. I will be using the fill cap as you see in the pic so no hose to the outside of the boat for filling up. The 3 fittings on top are a fuel pick up, a rollover vent, and a fuel return. The pick up goes to my fuel/water separator with the primer ball in between then to my engine. I have a perko fuel tank vent that I will mount outside on the back of the boat and directly to the rollover vent. I plan on capping off the fuel return fitting since I'm fueling directly into the fill port on the tank. Does this sound right? am I missing anything? In my research the only other thing I could think of is an inline carbon canister for the vent but don't know if that's necessary.
    Thanks

You have the main points down and here are my suggestions:

    • keep the vent hose as short as possible. A big purpose of the vent is to “vent” out excess fuel during a fill up when the fuel tops off. Also keep the vent higher than the tank.
    • Cap your fuel return. This is used for engines that don’t burn all the fuel and return some to the tank (diesels)
    • Personally, I would not fuel directly in the filler cap. This is not a portable tank and is intended for permanent mounting. When you fill directly into the cap you run the risk of overflow into the compartment which could be dangerous. I would suggest running a filler cap to outside the compartment so that any overflow would not spill into the compartment but rather into an area with open air. Be safe

    • hope this helps
