it's a bit of a drop on the entrance. Looking to keep the hood horizontal on the v-notch:

Here, I lost traction, had to back down about 20 feet, then drive up the passenger side cliff face to get traction back and make it out. Locked in rear the entire time. Aired down to 14psi the entire time.

My spotter pointing out to me that I've been losing traction in that pit. At that point, I used some V8 power to get over it. Worked like a charm.

This is the pit here, the driver's side front tire would lose traction. I'm actually well vertical at this point.

Nice adventures Al Tundy! Beautiful scenery. Whats your pro opinion on a regular plain stock 1st Gen 4x4 Tundra making any of those trails in your pics?

    Thanks!

I don't really have have a "pro" opinion, but I have a "fly by the seat of my pants, f' it I'll try it, I have no idea what's around the next corner, opinion though."
On that note... it could do it. I wouldn't say, it could do it "no problem," but it could do it with the right driver behind the wheel, good spotter, aired down.

I don't know what to call this one.
My wife and I left the house with the intention of running the entire Wheeler Pass trail, but ended up using all our time exploring a wash/gorge at the bottom of Wheeler Pass. Climbed a bit, explored, found some caves, and did a little target practice. By that time it was getting dark, so we headed back. We plan on returning and running the entire pass.

Mt. Charleston and Wheeler pass in the background of our driveway.

The wash as seen from our house.

The southern entrance to the dirt road of Wheeler pass travels next to the Spring Mountain race track. We stopped for a bit and watched the action.

    Happy New Year!

I think Al Bundy would put it like this:
"My New Year's resolution is for everyone else to get their shit together."

@AlTundy total newbie here, but I have a question about your light bar. What did you use to mount it/potential cost of parts without light bar? Thinking seriously about adding some extra light to my tundra and need ideas.

@AlTundy thank you very much! I’ve been wanting to add extra light to the truck for empty backroads and logging roads or whenever extra beams are needed. I’m just too cheap to purchase a rigid light bar since they are freakin pricey. But I’d imagine they’ll last forever. It’d be interesting to see which lightbar (rigid versus cheapies at tractor supply) would be brighter. Thank you for your help!

I don't know anything about the "cheapies" at tractor supply, but I imagine they are probably terrible. I think the rough country lights are the best bang for the buck. plenty bright, have lasted years with absolutely no problems. Even when I lived in the humidity of Florida, they did not condense under the glass. If you want them for driving backroads, I'd go with halogens. I use my three halogens off road for driving conditions. I never use the LEDs. They reflect off the hood too much.

    Epic adventures, thanks for sharing.

How is your power steering pump holding up? It struggles to turn my 315/70/17s if I am moving slow (parallel parking or not moving at all). Curious if my pump is going out or you have found a better solution? Any steering upgrades to mention?

I don't have any struggle with turning when parking. Sure it's a a bit more difficult, but nothing that isn't expected. I blew through a steering rack earlier this year. Other than that, no problems.

Weird. Was doing some rock crawling this weekend and rack wasn’t up to it.
Shift into neutral and rev or inch forward / back to get some action.

Maybe time for a new one? Did you stick OEM?

Big difference between parking, and rock crawling in regards to the rack ability or struggle. It's typical to have difficulty steering while rock crawling.

    I replaced with OEM.

Yup. I don't know which vendor they're from though. I also trimmed the wheel opening on the front ones to clear better.

Just returned from The "Grand" Adventure.
About 220miles of off-road to the north rim of the Grand Canyon. We started at St. George Utah, over Mt. Trumbull, to Whitmore Point, through the lava tubes, and back out to Colorado City.
First night's camp was to corral all attendees where we stayed off of the 7 in the BLM. Second night was literally on the north rim of the Grand Canyon at Whitmore Point. Third night was at the lava tubes.
I can't wait to do something like this again. The trip made me sorta rethink the direction of my build. Need more water and gas storage, and perhaps a hard shell tent mainly for durability while flying over these trails for extended periods.

    Enjoy!

The Mount Trumbull area was settled during the 19-teens. Homesteaders were given 650 acres each. Many of the first settlers ancestors still inhabit the area. This was their second school house during that expansion period.

Off to the next destination for lunch. Toroweap Point.

From Toroweap Point you can view lava falls, the gnarliest section of rapids on the Colorado river. Essentially a small waterfall:

Our final destination was the lava tubes.

We found a lava cave. (Entrance is down in front of the Tundra)

The wife was not having any of it:

The lava cave was home to pictographs. Sure look like aliens to me:

Just some of the ridiculously puffy dust road sections along the way. At times visibility was zero:

    Final night camp:

She was all about getting that firewood. Temps dropped down to 21F that night.

Great pics, thanks for sharing! How are you liking the LT vs. say having a mid-travel setup (just coilovers and good shocks front and rear, stock length arms).

Really at a point with my build where I need to stay and commit to mid-travel F/R, or start looking at bed cage / cantilever rear and LT front (like you).

Saw there were some mid travel trucks in your group, curious how you fared, were you over gunned and waiting a lot or just more comfortable going slower with the rest of the group...

Killer trip and pictures. Any chance you've got a GPX of your route?
