I'm planning on using the Meguiars Gold Class wash later today just to test the foam cannon out. What's the go-to recommended foam soap that isn't stupid expensive? I realize that is highly subjective and everyone will have varying opinions, so I guess just looking for some recommendations.

The Trinova is one of the better ones that's more in the middle of the price spectrum of foam cannons. I'm a little surprised that it doesn't have any measurement marks on it. My Amazon cheapie has them, although I'm doubtful they're accurate. When trying any new soap in the foam cannon, I start with 2oz of soap and 20 oz of water. I used measuring cups from the kitchen with water and made my own marks on the bottle for reference. I also grabbed a couple of those plastic cups they put on laundry detergent bottles now, and put marks on them for my wash bucket. Even with my little electric pressure washer, this formula has given me pretty good foam with most soaps. There have been some I've needed to add a little more, but soap is relatively inexpensive.

It is doable but you may end up using more MGC as a foamer. Its cheap but usually requires more than other soaps to get shaving cream foam out of it. I just ran out and switched to P&S Pearl for foam.

I missed some of the earlier comments. Concur you can get any soap to foam with the right equipment and right concentrations. Some soaps are specifically formulated for foam.

Yes those are brand new I like to wash them before use. I will cut all the tags after I dry them. I am not a fan of CG but these rags are pretty good all purpose.

Yeah, I like them for general use. They do well for applying sealants also.

The bottom of my detailing go-bag usually has a half dozen or so of those tags in it. I just rip them off and drop them in there when mobile.

I just picked up some yet to be determined studs and duds. Notables:

Dr B's Micro-suede Cleaner and the Protection - Gotta keep my NBA edition interior looking LeBron crisp.
Dr B's Plasma Coat - Reported to give ceramic coatings the Carnuba warmth while retaining hydrophobic properties.
RimJob - its a rim wax to keep rims looking clean. It will be difficult to out class ceramics and Colinite/Fuzzo performance so I not expecting great things it's just easier to apply.
P&S Iron Buster - I like Iron X, just testing other options
Auto-fanatic Foaming Wheel cleaner - will see if this beats other non-iron remover cleaners
P&S Pearl - So far I like the lubricity, we'll see if she's a keeper.

Small IK Foamers and Multisprayer. Big IK Foamer: Love these. I've added more to my inventory. I use the big sprayer with a electric tire pump, holds about 4 gallons of solution which is more than enough to cover two vehicles.

I keep waterless wash, glass cleaner, interior cleaner, and some towels in the truck at all times. If anything, I can be productive if I’m somewhere having to wait for someone.

Like what? Its great stuff. I've heard bad things about letting bird shit, tar, water spots, and other crap sit on your paint too. I and many here have used waterless wash products for a long time, I even use it during winter here in CT when my truck gets covered with salt brine, no issues.

Gotta get one of those big IK foamers. I love the fact that you can charge them rather than having to pump them. P&S Pearl is one of those 'under the radar' shampoos.....foams well, decent cleaning power, good lubricity, and a very reasonable price. My only issue was it that it was difficult to rinse out of my chenille wash mitts. I've heard very good things about the Auto Fanatic wheel cleaner...some pretty impressive YouTube videos out there on it. Looking forward to your review of all of these products.

Basically that without the water to act as a lubricator and rinse, that you are essentially taking that dirt and just rubbing it around the paint which increases the chance of small scratches.

It may be a while for reviews but I'll definitely share any findings.

Thanks for the heads up on the Pearl. I'll keep an eye out for that issue. Luckily I bought three laundry soaps to test too.

That's basically what I am looking for, one do it all shampoo. I'm happy with Reset, I just don't like foaming it. I may be better off keeping two soaps in rotation.

IKs are good kit for mobile detailers or water restricted situations. You can get two to three cars out of one of the big ones. A pump pressurizes it in less than 30 Sec. Slower than a Foam Cannon but a decent substitute.

Waterless washes are very safe for the paint.....it is very different than the standard wash process. Waterless wash solutions (soaps) are specially formulated for that process. Even in your standard bucket wash, the bulk of the lubricity is provided by the soap/shampoo, not the water

I think those IKs are a good alternative to having to bring out the pressure washer too. I try and rinse the excess soap out of the wash mitts prior to washing them.....I made the mistake of not doing so once.....had a washing machine full of suds. Pearl rinses off the vehicle okay, but just seems stubborn getting it out of the mitt.

I would add to the above, technique plays a part too. Its like wiping a baby's butt, as you gently sweep the towel you are lifting the leading edge exposing clean towel surface to the paint.

They’re not for use on a really dirty vehicle with caked on mud/dirt. It’s for when the vehicle gets dusty, some road film, pollen, etc. When the vehicle is really dirty a true wash is needed. My truck is almost always free of anything major that requires a full wash. It rarely goes more than a couple of days without at least being wiped down. Good rule of thumb is if you can actually feel the dirt, then do a pre-rinse before any kind of wash.
Another reason I keep it handy is for bugs. Those need to be cleaned off immediately if at all possible. They’ll etch your paint in a matter of hours, especially when it’s hot outside. When I get where I’m going, it just takes a couple of minutes to get those off the grill and mirror caps with a waterless wash. If you leave them long enough to “dry” on there, it’s way more difficult.

I got to use the MATCC foam cannon this past weekend. I don't really have anything to compare it against, but I was reasonably impressed.

Now I need to watch more videos on technique for a foam cannon wash. I wasn't able to get it all wiped clean before the sun was drying it, so I ended up having to hand wash again anyway....felt like a total waste of water and soap.

I also want to try a more "foam cannon specific" soap. The Meg's Gold Class foamed well, but I wasn't overly impressed with it taking off the dirt. In one section, I tried just spraying off to see how much was removed without any scrubbing and it was hard to tell if there was any difference at all.

If nothing else, both me and my 2 year old had a blast spraying the car with foam!

They are fun to use, and a fair number of folks think of them as a gimmick and a waste of water and soap. Megs Gold Class is an okay soap....not really all that great in a foam cannon and with average cleaning ability. There are some more dedicated 'pre-wash' soaps out there, formulated specifically for removal of road grime. Angelwax Cleanliness is one which fits the bill. As far as better foaming soaps.....Chemical Guys Honeydew, Jay Lenos Vehicle Wash, MTM Perfoamance, P&S Pearl Shampoo, and 3D Super Soap will all perform well out of your foam cannon. Is your pressure washer gas or electric...and what are the specs as far as PSI and GPM?
