Anyone going to try I70 today, assuming it re-opens this afternoon? We were headed to Leadville after school today, but I don't think that's going to happen.

Took one picture all day. 1st box JH tram. At least 22” waist deep for 4000 feet top to bottom. Can’t remember a deeper day in 26 years here. 3A0396CD-558B-4AAA-B74F-DF42466953CA.jpg Who else got this storm?

We're going back on Friday to try again. Copper needed the snow.

I'm on Day 5 of the Burton Step On experiment. After the season is over, I'll report my overall impressions. As someone who rode Switch bindings back in the K2 Clicker days, I've loved my Burton P2s the last few years. So far I'm regretting the decision to go with the Step Ons for Christmas over Tundra remote start.

Personally, I ride a 1995 K2 Eldorado 169 that I bought new at the start of the 95-96 season. Originally it had Clicker bindings but the boots rotted apart ages ago. Currently using some basic Rossignol bindings and some sweet Ride boots (first pair of truly comfortable boots I’ve ever worn).

I grew up less than 30 minutes to the lifts at Schweitzer Mountain - started riding in 1987 when there were only a handful of us on boards and most mountains still wouldn’t let us on (I remember TW Snowboarding was about 30 pages and had a list of approved mountains in the back). My first board was a Mistral 159 swallowtail - looked just like the old Burtons most shops have nailed to a wall now. Then I rode a Hooger Booger 162 for a season before getting my first new board - a Nitro Diablo 160 asymmetric twin tip. Rode the crap out of that before settling on my K2 that I’ve had ever since. Up until getting the K2, my boots were always just Sorel felt packs...

I graduated high school in January of the 93-94 season and spent the rest of it working two days a week at McDonalds in Sandpoint to pay for gas so I could work two days a week on the mountain in Skier Services in exchange for lift tickets for the days I wasn’t working...

I got to ride Mt Baldy in Sun Valley in 92 when they wouldn’t let boards on half the mountain still. My friend’s aunt was part of their corporate management and got me a special pass that got me anywhere on the mountain. Man, I could feel the eyeballs burning the back of my skull in the lift lines!

Took about a 12 year hiatus because of kids and life until my daughters expressed interest. Two years ago, I got back on the mountain with them and am on my second year of having a Fusion Pass that covers Timberline and SkiBowl on Mt Hood.

And I got to spend Christmas Day on Mt Bachelor with my two daughters and my “adopted” daughter (foreign exchange student from Spain) two winters ago... that was my return to the snow.

Couple of shots from last season:
The three of us on a “pilgrimage” to Schweitzer - my first time on the snow there in almost 25 years.

Curious if anyone is riding a Lib Tech and can chime in. I've been curious about how good that edge technology is? I've been riding a salomon Sickstick for 2 years now and it carves well, but I just can't always set an edge like I want and trust it. I've been trying to compensate for rider error by a sharper edge and wondering if I should consider a different board?

I haven't ridden a Lib Tech in a while, but in the past they made some of the best boards out there...and they've been around a LONG time.
The thing to consider, though, isn't specifically the board brand as much as the individual board design against what you are riding. I can thing of dozens of analogies from handguns to hunting to golf (even though I don't do that last one).

When I was younger, I couldn't fathom the concept of having more than one board (mostly for the cost). As I got older and started paying closer attention to how the board I had reacted to different conditions (and to the types of riding I prefer to do and the available terrain on the mountain I am on), I started to understand and appreciate the idea of it... But then I stopped riding for about 15 years (kids, life, family, career) and am now back to one board (and an old one at that). But this season has me starting to look at that again and start considering putting a few different options in my bag.

The best thing to do is to hit up a local shop (or the ski shop on a local hill) and pay to run some demo equipment. That way you can test out different options, profiles, cambers, core construction, even board shapes, lengths, and binding placements.

On a side note - I haven't been on the snow in Sun Valley since '92. I remember it was expensive back then!

Thanks for the feedback @RainMan_PNW . Specifically I've been curious about the magnetraction that Lib Tech has. I actually did try out a friends board this weekend and will try out the local shop. If you're in the market for a new board, I can't recommend enough the Salomon Sickstick as a board everyone should have in their quiver.

I know Sun Valley hasn't gotten any cheaper since '92 but the snow and the vibe is still good.

I’m currently riding a Lib with magnetraction edge and love it. This is my fourth LibTech deck and it’s the best board I’ve ridden. Mine also has a reverse camber which took some getting used

I’ve been riding Lib Techs for the past 20 years. Currently on a TRice pro model. I love the serrated edge on this board. Fortunately we don’t really have a lot of icy conditions here but on hardpack/ groomers it holds incredibly well. Best deck I’ve ever ridden and I’ve tried dozens of boards

If you can see the board I'm on its the t rice. Is this the 1 your riding? If you can even see it lol
*edit added a pic to show the edge can dust snow on fallen friends quite well haha

Thanks @gladecreekwy I ended trying a friends Lib Tech Ejack knife and I definitely like the magnatraction now. I'm going to be looking for a board with it next year. I dug trenches cuttin across the slope!

Dry here as well. Forecast is looking better starting this upcoming weekend.

Looking to try out a new board (Burton Hometown Hero) but waiting for decent conditions to get a good feel.
