I only do 10-12k KM (not even miles) a year....so yeah

I'll be retired by then too, so depending on what I do after they, it may be even less. I figure I'll have 120,000 KM (75k miles) on it by then

Sorry but minivans are awesome and very utilitarian. People in this society care so much about their image, most won't drive one solely because of some perceived image they think a minivan gives off.

The all wheel drive Sienna is a great vehicle.

Ok folks, sorry I hurt your feelings about your minivans with an obviously tongue-in-cheek comment about minivans on a TRUCK FORUM. Even though my comments are fully intended in jest, I should be more aware of the prejudices and discrimination that is so pervasive in our society and has suppressed minivans and their drivers. Even in private, this type of thought is not ok, let alone on a public forum. In the future, I will make it my mission to educate everyone on the value that minivans and owners/drivers have brought to society.
    :amen: and A-minivans.

Maybe we can all agree that minivans are simultaneously useful and dorky. They’re the fanny pack of the automotive world.

Don’t let my wife hear that. That was the only must have option for her new 4Runner. Not sure I consider what is in the 4Runner a 3rd row though...

My brother briefly considered one of those so he was happy that the 5 seat version was cheaper since that's what he would have preferred anyway.

I was pushing her hard to a trd off-road 4Runner but she would consider it since you can’t get them with the 3rd row. We’ve used it once since buying the car, so I can’t say it’s completely worthless and I’m sure once the kids are out of car seats they’ll get at lot more use.

Oh I know it - in fact, while I wouldn't say they're as reliable as Tundras, they beat out Ford for reliability on most quality indexes I've seen.

Agreed. Honestly, I think I was on a hair trigger, because I've seen a ton of 2022 posts, and a corresponding ton of 'not enough features' posts. LOL Many people compare to the current selection of trucks, and I totally understand that. In my case, when I was shopping, I knew I wanted a Tundra; and so the only thing I had to compare them to was my 2013 F150.

In other words, as you obviously know I'm sure, it's all about perception. Were my focus anything other than reliability and longevity, I'd have more to complain about, I think...but all I know is that I love my truck. :D

For those watching the NFL playoffs, notice the preview of the super bowl has the same blue lights flashing as the leaked tundra video rumored to be the super bowl commercial. Just an observation.

I have a friend who lives near Dallas who said there's a Toyota test track 30 miles from where he lives, and he went to look at it from outside the fence not too long ago, and they put security on him immediately. Suggesting there was something they didn't want him to see. I said that after the new Tundra comes out, he could probably set up a taco stand on the side of the road there and they wouldn't care.

I’m getting excited about the new Tundra. Currently in a ‘15 F150 Lariat, which has been a great vehicle and I love it, but the new gen F150 doesn’t look aggressive enough for me.

I would have likely bought a Tundra in ‘15 if it had better fuel economy and push button start.

The “legit” renders look good. Wish they would reveal it.

Here's my take on the 2022 Tundra in the short time left B4 we're bombarded with info on it & it's not a mystery. Not like they're gonna base anything on my comments here.

    THINGS I'D LIKE TO SEE:
    • a bench seat/Crewmax/8-foot bed version
    • a V-8 option even if there's a TT V-6 version
    • a standard cab/3.4 L V-6/8-foot bed/manual 5-speed version for a base model
    • a 3/4-ton heavy haul version
THINGS i DON'T WANT TO SEE:
    • twin-turbo-V6-only powerplant "options"
    • Automatic Transmission-only

Doubtful. I'm sure every media and auto blog whatever company, site, and channel knows about that test site also. Probably a constant problem for the security team.

As others have pointed out and rumors have swirled, the future of the V8 isn't promising. If past behavior is any predictor of future, the Tundra will have one engine choice with a hybrid variant, highly doubtful it will be mated to the 5.7 iForce. If it's an all new next generation game changing truck, they're not going to be carrying over the old V8. I know the domestics all have them, but Toyota isn't looking at competing with them and their vast sales numbers, its not their bread and butter. Also, as mentioned earlier, I'm sure they've done the math and know that every Toyota purist will still buy whatever they make, and the lost V8 purists will be made up for by the people who weren't buying Tundras because they were too thirsty.

Although I think you’re 100% right I don’t understand why Toyota doesn’t want to compete with the big 3 . How much profit are they loosing out on in North America ? You’d think the bean counters would be pushing for it here .

Brand loyalty among typical U.S. truck buyers borders on fanaticism, so there is a high risk of little to no major profits in challenging them. Let's face it, for full size trucks the primary market is going to be those U.S. buyers.

Look hard at the truck groups in the country. How many of them have you seen or heard spout off the usual "I only buy American trucks" or something similar? It is a huge hurdle to try to overcome that mentality, and combine that with the fact that the most popular vehicles for consumers is the SUV/crossover and the only ones still buying trucks are the type previously described. They only buy "American" trucks and they carry a 45 "Because they don't make a 46" types are not going to be swayed by facts.

I don't think it's that Toyota doesn't want to compete; they are just smart enough to know that they can't fix stupid.

Let’s be honest. We on this forum are a very minority segment of tundra owners. I would venture to guess a majority of tundra owners in my area couldn’t change their own oil and possibly don’t own the metric tools to attempt it

There's got to be something either in manufacturing or the truck structure itself that makes having a TT V6 and a V8 cost more than they're willing to pay. I'd venture a guess they're changing a lot of the tooling and processes from making the V8 to making the V6, I can't see anything in the truck itself that would make fitting the V8 an issue.

And when looking at lost profits how big is it really? The rumors have been out long enough that the V8 is leaving so many that only want a V8 went and bought 2020's or 2021, so nothing lost there. The crossover of wanting a V8 and good fuel mileage is pretty small, probably so small that the added cost in having 2 engines being built that the profit would be negligible.

Many Tundra owners for sure are people who owned Camry's, Corolla's and just realized they needed something bigger, and that's who Toyota has targeted almost since day one. They're not the type to chase the most towing, just that it can do what they need. For them fuel efficiency is far more important that payload. And only a TT V6 has an indication they are going even harder after this demographic - get the people looking for their first truck that mainly do commuting but want to be able to haul and tow the odd time.

Don't forget the two major factors in the possible engine change,

    1. CAFE standards
    2. Brand image

Every manufacturer is being forced to lower their fleet emissions regardless of what their customers are buying. Toyota fancies itself as the world leader in hybrid vehicles and being a greener option, having their worst vehicle becoming greener is great for image management.

On a side note, it's also the fleet sales that would kill them competing with the Domestics. Businesses would want to use an "American" brand, and they don't offer HD options.

This is always interesting to think about when all the manufactures are making SUV instead of cars. If we really are wanting to lower fleet emissions why do we keep making bigger and bigger vehicles. The engines are getting more efficient but the vehicles are getting bigger, so its seems like we aren't going anywhere. I mean I know why its because that what people want, just funny to think about.
