They wanted the sale to count in 2020. Dealership pushed me to take a Tacoma earlier then I wanted to. It was last week of month. So i asked them what it was worth to them. They knocked off another $500.

Hearing stories like this of how shady stealerships are is just one more reason to solidify not trading in my two Toyota’s until the wheels fall off.

Sounds like they pressured you to sign the paperwork so they could get some year end bonuses for the dealership and sales/finance people. Super shady! I'd be taking this to the owner of the dealership or Toyota directly.

Against the law in Utah. Major violation. Tell the dealer to rescind all of the papers and get you a refund of every cent paid or you are going to file a claim on the dealer bond. Or you can call Utah DMV Investigations Division. Which dealer (I think I know)? It is also gaming the Toyota system and Toyota will not be happy with the dealer. If dealer is unresponsive then PM me.

This just sounds nuts! What's the VIN on the finance paperwork? Have you looked that up yet to see where the vehicle is?

Quite sure it's not legal here in CO. Never ever sign off on a vehicle not in your possession no matter how badly you want it. Not even a JD tractor. That's a bad dealer that needs to be reported.

Was out for the weekend but they told me on Thursday they would be looking into trying to get it "hot shipped" here. They said a few other customers of theirs and other dealerships were experiencing the same thing. I'm not sure what the deal is then if others in the area are being held up.

I havent heard anything yet and am going to escalate this tomorrow

I'm going to contact corporate tomorrow before pushing to rescind the paperwork. Only reason is that supply is so little around here I'd hate to give up the truck and have to wait another month or two before getting something to drive.

Dealer 101 right there, "others in the same boat" and "hot shipped" sounds like dealer double talk to me.

How do they not have you in a loaner at the very least?

Update on this... I called Toyota corporate yesterday to file a complaint and they got back to me with a case manager today. They pointed the finger at the dealership and said they should be doing everything they can to help remedy this. They deferred the responsibility and said it was up to the dealership to figure this out.

I also called TFS today and they immediately recognized that the title hasnt been issued. Its in a "requested-pending" status. They offered the solution of me canceling this lease and leasing a similar truck either at Karl Malone or any other dealership. They called KM with me on hold and tried to get this started however KM has no inventory and the trucks that are coming in are held up with mine. After that we discussed extending my lease until I get the title and then resume payments at that time. I didnt execute it yet until I did some research to see if other dealers in the area had some Tundras and it looks like they're all incoming which sucks.

I also called KM after I spoke to TFS to see if I could swap my lease to another truck thats coming in sooner and the manager said the delivery date for all the Tundra's is so far the same as mine. He said corporate knows there is a big backlog of Tundras and they're shifting the blame to the dealerships. But they have no control over whats delivered to them so it goes back to corporate.

In the middle of writing this KM Auto got back to me and said they just got a call from corporate and wanted to make sure they could do all they could to make sure I was happy. A little ridiculous that I had to make a formal complaint for them to finally offer anything. They asked if they could tint the truck or give me a credit on any accessories or help make my first payment ($400).

My truck doesnt have steps so thats what I'm really leaning towards but I wanted to ask the experts what would you do if you had the choice?

Thanks everyone for the suggestions this definitely helped get them moving

There are several things wrong with this. They should have never submitted the deal to the bank until the truck was delivered to you. The dealer at this point should pay off that contract. If the truck has not been wholesaled to the dealer, they have not even been charged yet. I would start with Talking with the owner, if it’s not a corporate store and if it is , the General Manager. Call the bank. I’m sure they are not aware that you have not taken delivery. I’m not sure about the laws in your state but in Georgia, you do not own the Truck until you take delivery. The counting it for 2020 was bull. It didn’t count anyways for them. It has to be wholesaled to the dealer before it counts. That was just a way to get you to sign up.

So the dealer knows they have no control over what gets delivered or when but pressured you to finalize a deal anyhow then tries to blame Toyota for the mess dealer created...

    :rofl::rofl::rofl:

I bet the guy said it with a straight face too!

I’d be tempted to cancel the whole thing just so it blows up in the sales guy’s face.

Oh I'm 100% tempted to cancel all of this. The situation sucks because I dont want to wait another 2+ months for a truck or start looking at other brands. The dealer said the next round of Tundra's is slated to come their way in March/April

I get it. Inventory is looking scarce with no end in sight... if you aren’t going to cancel I’d try to get them to reimburse your payments until your truck is delivered. If they refuse and you don’t want to cancel I guess you’d have to settle for credit at the parts counter? Unbelievable. I hope you blow up their google reviews and social media once this is all resolved.

Thanks this dealership is independently owned. Based on this law nothing has been issued to me, temporary permit or title. Toyota Finance immediately recognized this when I called them and I think thats why they were so supportive of me finding a vehicle on the ground ASAP

I was told by my dealer that they have zero control of the vehicle until it is off loaded on their lot. I traded in my 2014 on my current 2020 while it was in transit from Texas to Portland. I had the VIN on my 2020 before it arrived and could see its location with the Toyota app. What is funny is that I called the dealership when it had arrived on their lot, they did not know that the transport truck had arrived yet.

What model are you looking for? Looks like my earliest Tundra that is incoming has an ETA of 2/11. The Tundra’s that were allocated today do not have an ETA at all. That never happens.

@ToyotaManager - thanks for your contribution to the Forum. Very good counsel and information. This is owned by Karl Malone, former Utah Jazz all-star, but managed by a dealer group.
