Got a call yesterday that the tilt out sliding window is in at Line X but they are still waiting on the light switch/connectors. They are on a truck at ARE and it is expected to leave this week.

If you recall, I had the prop switches installed on all windoors. After I got home I discovered the side windoor lights would only come on if the tail gate window was open. Kind of defeats the purpose of having prop switches on the windoors, right. There is a fix that allows the prop switch to turn on the light only for the windoor being opened and the tailgate window will no longer turn on all lights. Not a big deal as the LED's are very bright and any one light will provide plenty illumination.

Hopefully next week I will have the tilt out sliding window as well as proper light wiring that I ordered July 7th. Still seems crazy that I am now waiting on wire connectors that most likely could have been put in a mailing envelope instead of on a truck with caps.

To be clear, I do not have any complaints with the quality of the top. Craftsmanship is sound and the color match and paint finish is great. If I were to order a top in the future I would likely choose ARE again. I understand my complaint is a first world problem, I'm not being an asshole to Line X either. On the same note, I am looking for some recognition that I got the short end of the stick with the delay and incorrect window and light switches. I will also have made an extra trip amounting to 100 miles driven and four hours of time.

Life could be worse, I could have a job counting presidential votes.

Still waiting! On the positive side, I've been quarantined for the last 10 days and wouldn't have been able to get taken care of anyway.

As of today I have not received any contact from Line X regarding putting in the correct window and switches since November 4th. At this point I have paid only $1,000 for the shell and should have a balance of $1,400. I think I'll just remain silent and see just how long it takes them.

I finally received an update via email on my topper. I have been waiting for the tilt out window I had originally ordered in July and the proper light switches for the windoors. Content of the emails was,
    Hi Jeff,
We are embarrassed it took so long, but today your correct light parts to separate the prop switch finally arrived! It took an act of Congress to get them to send the right ones. I know it's probably your busy time, so just let us know when it works for you and we will make whatever work to get it done and your front window replaced.
    Have a great day,
    Fargo Line-X

Invoice is below with no offered discounts. I really expected the installation fee to come off without me having to ask.

The window was finally swapped out mid to late January. While it was in for the swap I had them take the cap off and reseal around the corners where I was getting some light leaking. When I returned to pick up the truck they had also added a third light strip down the center valued at $95 at no charge and gave me a $75 discount for the delay. I would have liked a bigger discount but I work in the service industry and wasn't going to be an asshole and put up a big fight. Adding the light strip was a nice gesture and I appreciate that.

I'm happy I had the prop switches corrected so a light turns on no matter which windoor is opened and I'm glad I have the tilt down window by the cab. I have already used the feature a couple times hauling long boards and accessing the back from the truck cab. I do however wish the window was completely removable as they are on the Leer toppers.

Overall, the quality of ARE and Line X is great, it just took forever. Add it to the list of inconveniences of COVID life I guess.

Well, I was also hoping you'd get a bigger break than $75 and a light strip, but just to get it over with and enjoy the end product is a treat in and of itself. Faced with a situation myself right now in which I have to weigh the options. Sometimes it's just not worth it to put up a fight, especially when it's a matter of principle and the monetary loss isn't great :annoyed: Still sucks though, lol.

Before getting my 2007, I had no idea they were that expensive :spending:

Glad you're finally sorted. Love that cap and the options you got

At 10 weeks today ..I had not heard from my installer concerning my A.R.E. MX topper

.. left them a message this morning have yet to hear back from them -became a little nervous because of the monies I deposited already.

I decided to do a search and found this awesome thread(.. yet not so awesome, but lots of information to help ease my thoughts ).

Thank you (everyone) for posting your concerns concerning your cap /topper.

I too ordered the sliding win-doors and the front tilt window for easy cleaningetc, and some lighting and headliner...hopefully they get my order right after this long wait. I also went the extra step and ordered the full walk-in door ( removing my tailgate for that).

On the ARE “build to order” site I saw an interesting product by “EZ Topper Lift” I ordered the topper lift as well as the tent enclosures and privacy screens- I plan on some off grid camping if I ever get this topper LOL.

.... these past weeks I’ve been so anxious waiting-I started my build in the garage using the floor/bed template.

    ... Will update.
