All 3 first gens I've owned have been between 190-194. Two of them had brand new radiators and thermostats. I think PHM just has a special deal with the radiator cooling karma gods.

My truck runs 188 if its really cold out but normally I see 190-192 cruising.

I’m wondering if the Lower Temp Mojo is in the Prestone Flush? All things considered this is the only thing different I’ve done compared to everyone here (unless you guys have and didn’t say I wouldn’t know). I never did one before so have no baseline comparison.

Reviewers stated higher Heater/Blower Temps and lower rad temps with the oils and light rust being removed. Some reviewers said did not do a thing. I’ll take a freebie when I can get it. Like I said I thought 195-200° was normal.

***Edit: Nothing was wrong with the old radiator. I even cut into it for inspection. Looked brand new inside on the section that was cut up.

Ran some errands today and even got the truck washed! Im loving this snow-less December here in Wisconsin...
Anywho, I did notice the overflow tank was pretty much dry this morning, so I bought a gallon of Zerex 50/50 and filled it to the line. I wonder if my radiator was a little low? Driving around the temps stayed around 184-186, but did venture up near 190 as well.

    I don't know.... I'm calling it good...

I didn't do the prestone flush on either of my radiator replacements so maybe that is what did it. (I still think it's the cooling gods you gained favor with)

Yes. And everyones ‘Thoughts and Prayers’ for a cooler globe are helping. I feel bad for all those years of having a hot radiator. I think the Horned Chick Pea Harvest will be better this year.

Wow that was an interesting read and impressive work! I don't have those skills and applaud you.

In one post you mentioned converting the interior lights to LED, I just bought a 2003 Limited 4x4 StepSide and the lights in the center stack are really dim even with the brightness at full, might even have a few dead so I would like to fix that and would go LED when I crack it open.

If you did this LED conversion do you have any details about the bulb sizes needed? Where you got them? Any help really would be appreciated. If not no worries, I will use the search tool and am sure to find something here.

    Again, good work!

Thanks much. With the onset of winter here in Wisconsin, I've decided to forgo swapping the interior lights until next spring. I will be posting the work here in my thread, but there are a number of really good threads that discuss interior LED swaps already.

    Search and ye shall find...

    Short update here.
I had a headlight burn out, so I picked up some LEDs for the Tundra. I'm very Happy with the output. They do a great job of illuminating the road and the beam seems to sit low, so I'm not blinding drivers in front of me:thumbsup:

here's a couple pics I grabbed last night taking the trash can out...

You can see where the beam cuts off on the tree.

This next shot is not the best photo, as this makes them look much brighter than they are.

Time for a mid-winter update... the trucks been running great. About a week ago, I noticed a slight oil smell while driving.

You guessed it. Valve covers started seeping. I figured I'd just tighten the bolts a little and buy myself some time.

The first bolt I started snugging up snapped right off...:frusty:

At that point I knew I was going to replace the gaskets, so I figured I'd remove the VCs and get ready for the inbound parts.
I ended up snapping a total of 8 bolt heads off while removing the covers...:annoyed: I was able to use an easy out on 2 of them to remove the remaining bolt, but the other 6 I had to drill out and re-tap. Unbelievable.

It took me most of yesterday to drill out the bolt remnants and tap the holes. Working in a 35 degree garage was not fun, but I made the best of it.

I slopped some paint on the covers just to freshen them up and ended up replacing the worst of the hardware for the coils and Valve covers.

This morning I installed my newly acquired Tonneau Cover the Festivus Trolls left me, and went for a shake down run. Got home and had no drips, no leaks and no smells..

    On to the pictures.....

This was after snapping the heads off on the first few bolts on the driver side.
    E85462C8-6E0A-49EB-93EB-4FBFA7045316.jpg

After getting the cover off, it was time to repair... Tapping the holes...
    53BC3A19-BF05-416F-822F-2E0DFF94DAEE.jpg

And yet another hole that needed drilling and tapping. I saw those markings on the intake cam, and was wondering what they referenced? Any thoughts?

Here it is all back together.

The bed cover was a breeze to install, and it looks pretty good on there.

Thanks very much! I bought a very basic cover off eBay. I found a seller with decent feedback and hit the B.I.N. button.

    I bought this one:

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/FOR-2000-2...-COVER/163393329648?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

super easy to install, didn’t break the bank and it looks good.

The one thing I had to rectify was the hardware. The kit came with 6X1.0 bolts that were about 25mm long and too short for my bed rail edges. I ended up buying 35mm length bolts that were a little better quality. All of .68 cents each.

It finally happened... My wife was running to the store, the truck was in the driveway, so I said " take the Tundra.... it'll be better in the snow..." Keep in mind this is literally the first time she has driven it.
When she came home, she pulled up to the garage and managed to hit the corner of the house. We have brick, so no damage there, but the truck?

Looks like I have some painting to do....:annoyed:

    199E539B-7807-4286-ACA5-23020FB17EC5.jpg

Admittedly she felt bad, and has decided never to drive the truck again.

Time for an early spring update....
When I bought the truck last January, it only had one sorry sounding horn (low tone) and it was not very loud.
So, I found a set of replacement horns on line and grabbed em. Easy to install and now I have a much better sounding "Get out of my way!"
I also started installing my lights on the hood and bumper. I haven't wired them in yet, I'm still not completely sold on the Ditch lights thing, although I do like how they look.
It's been a solid driver all winter. Just have to make sure to exercise the 4WD actuators every so often. I'm starting to gather some tools and supplies to tackle the dents and scratches on the right side of the bed, where my wife hit the house (she still hasn't driven it since then).

I gotta say.. I love this truck!

This has been a fun read! Great job on the frame and cleaning everything up. I had a Tacoma that I spent some time cleaning off the frame and repainting before it got too bad but nothing anywhere near what you did here. I see the Rodney sticker btw, MCM fan.
