Does anyone else have a new iPhone 12 model and have issue with the wireless charger that Toyota started putting in the console lids in 2020? Mine worked great with my older iPhone but the new one won't stay connected. I think it's that the camera bump is so much bigger, it creates an air-gap between the phone and the charger itself and/or the phone slides around and loses it's magnetic connection. I think an anti-slip mat would actually fix the problem...if anyone knows of one that fits in that space well?

I’ve had problems with my iPhone 12 Pro also. I’ve had the metal band around the outside make the red light come on and when it doesn’t, it’s very finicky about the position as you said. I’ve pretty much given up on it. It has to be plugged in for CarPlay to work anyway.

Agree w/the others; and it's not just the charger in the truck. I've got an older wireless charger that worked fine with my iPhone 11, but it's almost impossible for the iPhone 12 to charge on it.

Yep same here. Apple put out an update that seemed to briefly fix the issue but now mine is having problems again.

Something changed in the 12 that is making them less compatible with previous wireless chargers. Had one in my house that stopped working as well once I got the 12

Have you had any luck with the phone face down OR maybe backwards with the camera facing the rear seats? Does it charge okay that way? I started with the wireless charger after removing it from my 2015. I started using Android carplay more and will probably be getting rid of the Toyota wireless charger.

    Hope you find a solution.

I would suggest you pick this up...it works flawlessly for me (now, post software update on the dongle itself). It's really nice. I hid it under the cupholder console with a $5 usb right angle extension cable. I can find the thread on here with pics and link it if interested. Very clean.

But, back to the wireless charging point. Thanks for your input. I'm guessing it's a lost cause which is too bad.

Interesting, I didn't know it affected other wireless chargers. I've only used the Nomad wireless charger (which works fine on the 12 Pro Max) and Apples MagSafe charger...so for me the Truck charger was the anomaly. I see that isn't the case now.

My iPhone 12 mini has the same problems on my existing wireless charging stands. It wouldn’t charge on any of them all of the sudden. It still happens occasionally. What I do is completely
Power down the phone and restart it, then my wireless charging works as it should. Also I’m running a thick Speck case (14’ drop test) mil spec etc, etc. it’s not the iPhone magnetic case or whatever they’re calling their wireless charging compatible cases.

Yep. With that said, as an IT guy (translation: nerd LOL), I'm not too worried about it. While it may not look it, there are a *LOT* of changes under the hood this year for the iPhone 12 from last year:

    - all of them have OLED screens
    - all of them use Qualcomm modems (FAR better reception)
    - better camera
    - 5G
    - FAR better screen (I've actually intentionally TRIED to scratch it and am as of yet unsuccessful lol)
    - spiffy iPhone 5-like design

My iPhone 12 suffers the same wireless charger issue as most-have to reboot. Fortunately I am not a iPhone person, it is a seldom used phone which I do not rely on.

Does anyone know of an anti-slip mat or some kind of insert that fits that console lid phone tray? I can't find anything that looks to be made for the tundra except the one that has the cut outs for the non-wireless charging version.

Do you mind showing how you routed this? You purchased the Audi version?

Sorry that you are experiencing issues. I purchased the add-on wireless charger on the console lid (from Sparks) for my 2019. It works well with my iPhone 12 Pro Max with a Tendlin case.

I’m curious if you had a case on the phone that made the camera bump flush with the phone body if that would make a difference

Yes, I bought the Audi version. I don't think there is actually a difference in versions, but I bought the Audi one either way.
As for the routing, I did the same thing that this guy did...post #60. https://www.tundras.com/threads/wireless-carplay-for-those-with-2020s.69222/page-2
Only difference is where his wire goes off to the left kind of, I fed it straight down.
I used this usb right angle extension: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07NL5DDRJ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I do think that would make a difference. I don't use a case on my phone and am not willing to to make the charger work...but if the back of the phone were flush because of a case, my guess is that it would work.

I was able to get the wireless charger installed in my 2021 Saturday morning, in pajama pants, while everyone else was sleeping. Easy install, great mod! I don't have a wireless charging phone (OnePlus 8 5G) but my wife has the iPhone 12 Pro, and my youngest has the 12 Mini. Obviously no dice with a PopSocket and case, so have to take those off; the phones don't charge face down either. Took a drive around town and the 12 Pro would go to red after every turn! Holding it in place seems to help. The 12 mini was a little better, but if it slid too far to one side, it would go red as well.

I did the mod just to have it since it's OEM, knew I wouldn't really use it, doesn't seem great. I think more phones will come out with thick back bezels around the cameras like this. Maybe someone will 3D print, or make with foam, a spacer per phone size to really hold it in the center...

I almost upgraded to iPhone 12, may be I'll hold off for now. I think it has to do with the new Magsafe feature. The 12 now has a magnetic ring around the charging mechanism, thus probably a smaller area of contact where it can charge from. Apple is probably going to push selling MagSafe compatible accessories.

My 12 Pro Max hasn’t worked with my Qi charger since day one. Works great with MagSafe of course.
