I can see why it took so long! We have some old oaks around town that are referred to as "The Indian Oaks" because the Native Americans used to camp under them. They are the biggest damn oak trees I've ever seen. This is one that is in my alley neighbors yard. I think it's an awesome tree but I'm glad it's not in my yard.

Yeah it sounds like you have two switches are different points in a room that control the same light correct? You can use a dimmer on one end of it but it MUST be a 3-way (3pole) dimmer switch and the other switch needs to be a 3-way switch as well or you will run into trouble all day long.

the switch on the left appears to have 3-way wiring coming to it (12-3 I assume) but it looks like the white wire is going to your hot on the switch which should be your black and then the red wire should run to the other switch.

The middle switch wiring doesn’t look right and ‘shouldn’t’ Have two reds going to it or two whites. Older home wiring is amazing so I’ve run into my fair share of wtf wiring in my house. This is where an electrician friend and/or a multimeter will come in handy

Scary to have a tree that big and that old so close to the house. One big limb dropped during a storm and everyone is running for the hills!

I know! On top of that, his yard doesn't get any sun. It blocks it all out.

I feel bad not helping but I have to be there to see, always have, I'm terrible at phone support with the young guys. Saw this and was impressed with detail. Good luck.
    ===========================
I just installed 4 smart switches on 4 3-way circuits. For each circuit, the smart switch goes on the load side, and a simple single-pole switch on the power (supply) side. You can re-use one of the old 3-way switch as the single-pole switch.

I had a standard switch on one end and a smart switch on the other. I'm just a DIYer and I went round and round until I followed the diagram in section 3b for the standard 3 way switch exactly like it was pictured and it worked.

The Feit switch needs full time voltage to AC-L. The switch can tell if voltage is coming in to YL/RD or not. It knows whether the light is on or off, because it is either sending voltage through to LOAD or not. The Feit switch is triggered to change the current state of the LOAD to the opposite when the voltage coming in to YL/RD changes.
Example: The light is on and voltage is present on YL/RD. When the dumb switch is changed, the voltage to YL/RD stops. The Feit Switch takes that as indication to change the state of the voltage going to LOAD. In this case it switches it off, turning the light off. When the other switch is changed again, voltage to YLRD is restored. The Feit switch sees that change and again changes the state of the voltage going to LOAD, this time back to on, turning the light back on.
<Turn power off at breaker panel. Test lines with multimeter to make sure they are not charged before going further.>
You need the Feit switch in the box where the line goes up to the light. If you have other switches for other lights in the same box, and they are on the same circuit breaker, pigtail off the hot (black) wire bundle and insert into AC-L on the Feit switch. Pigtail off the neutral (white) bundle and insert into N on the Feit Switch. Connect the wire going up to the light to LOAD. Connect the bare or green ground wire to the green screw on the Feit switch.
Over on the dumb 3-way switch, connect Line power to the common (black) connector on the switch. Connect one of the traveler wires to one of the two brass connectors on the switch. Cap off the other traveler, you don't need it. Be sure the bare or green ground wire is connected to the green ground screw.
Back at the Feit switch, insert the traveler wire you are using to the YL/RD on the Feit switch. Cap off the other end of the unused traveler wire. Turn on the breaker and you're in business. see less

From reading the instructions you posted and that detailed review, it’s looking to me like maybe you don’t have the load and AC-L correct, and that couldn’t be based on how the house is actually wired - what path the wire is taking to which switch first and then how the load is actually wired off those switches.
Unfortunately, I am not much better at remote support either...

Finally got my security light/camera combo installed today. Mis-measured the hole and had to cut another right next to it, so I have a little touching up to do tomorrow. Otherwise the install went well, and dropping a new line for the light gave me the opportunity to add a light and receptacle to the attic as well. If you haven’t already, check out Eufy for security and video surveillance. Nice - I have looked at the Eufy. Unfortunately, we just don't have good enough internet to be able to put in web-streaming video cameras.

That security light is really pushing it too. If it was any further from the router I bet it wouldnt work :smash:

I've got the eero mesh network setup to help with local wifi. It doesn't have a lot of tinkering/tweaking capability (read: basically none) but it is really easy to set up and needs basically no tweaking once it's going. Since my house is wired for CAT5e to every room (I did that when I built it), I back-haul my eero devices over ethernet back to the router to preserve the wifi signal for device data. Anyway, with 4 eero's (one on each floor, plus one in my garage), I can be anywhere within 60' of my house and get at least 3 bars of WiFi signal.

That’s nice! I really need to get a decent mesh system here. The router is on one side of the house and that is problematic

I have Velops all over the place and they kinda suck. Since we stream everything, I ended up buying a couple of these MOTOROLA MOCA Adapter for Ethernet Over Coax, 1,000 Mbps Bonded 2.0 MoCA (Model MM1000) to pretty much do what @RainMan_PNW but using the existing coaxial cable to do it.

Those are reasonably priced! I got rid of all the phone and coax in the walls when I moved in though, so I’d have to go a different route.

Building hardware for holding up the open shelves in our kitchen.
    L1-1/4x1-1/4x1/8 angles, 10” long
Screw holes to mount to the sides of the cabinets and to mount the shelves (the shelves will be three 1x4’s each, so one screw in each board)
    upload_2021-1-9_19-52-59.jpg

Three coats of primer on all sides, and three coats of duplicolor black bumper paint. I had two brand new cans of textured flat black Rustoleum that I was going to use, but both cans stopped spraying after only about a dozen passes. Not clogged nozzles either - just stopped spraying. I’ve had a few issues with Rustoleum doing that to me before...and doing some online searching, it looks like I’m not alone. Looks like that’s the last time I buy Rustoleum.

Two of three sets of shelves done in the kitchen. The third set is in a corner and I’m going to have to come up with a custom fabricated bracket.

I've got three ONEs - kitchen, garage/gym, and basement (wood shop). I think two of them are the "gen 2" but can't remember. They create background noise, when we can get them to stream (shitty internet and no alternatives). I don't own a TV any more, so I sold off all the surround sound/receiver/HiFi stuff I had.

Edit - I should clarify. By "background noise" I mean they give us music in the background while doing other things. Not that they have any sort of negative noise. The one in the kitchen does a pretty good job of filling the space for how small it is. And I'm not an audiophile by any stretch of the imagination, so as long as it's a song that I know and I like, I'm good with it being there in the background. We don't use any of the Alexa/Google voice assistant crap, so no idea how that works or how well it works.

I pre-wired my house for in-ceiling audio and controllers in every room (dedicated speaker wire to every location from a central panel in the basement, along with CAT5 to each volume controller location to give me multiple options for sound and control), and never got around to putting a system in. Over the years, the whole idea has taken a back seat due to cost and no real need. I do consider actually finishing it, if for no other reason than to finally put something other than a blank plate on all those volume boxes, but I also can't afford to put 8 Sonos Amps in the basement either! So I set up a couple of ONEs in the rooms we use the most.

The wood is “reclaimed barn wood” from Home Depot. Even though that’s total bullshit and it’s all new production nominal 1x4 with one rough cut side, tons of knots, and has a grey wash stain on it... but it’s the look my wife wanted and it’s super easy to install since I’m not putting any additional finish on it.

bracket design for the corner is in my head. Just gotta make them up tomorrow after work.

Started in on the fireplace remodel. Making it to match the kitchen we just redid. Going with a Shaker style surround and mantle. Lots to still finish!

I replaced a missing kitchen drawer box.
Tip: When buying a house make sure you open and inspect every single cabinet and drawer to make sure that they operate. If one doesn't open it may not just be a "stuck drawer" is could be that the box is missing and the drawer face is just screwed onto the frame.

Forward looking camera, Stub Antenna, 3M clearshield. A few other non lifted items.
I also check every electric outlet to see if they are attached. I found a couple in a previous home in 1989. I’m in the process of moving later this year to a new home being built, so I have to rethink everything again.

Be careful of a large home builder also, friends of mine bought a new home in a new development and caught many issues while it was being built because he check on it frequently. I imagine this is less of a problem for a custom home builder where everything isn't subbed out to the lowest bidder with questionable contractors.

Countertops were installed this morning. We're really happy with the way they turned out.

Bathroom is coming along. Vanity is installed, countertop check, faucets check, tub/shower trim check, toilet check....tomorrow will be new light switches, exhaust fan, mirrors, lights, towel bars, etc. Everything should be done in there tomorrow except the tub door glass which is about 2 weeks out. Things are finally coming together a little faster. Today is the week 11 mark since we started the remodel.
