Factory fender flares, 3" front 2" rear Readylift kit. 22x9 +40 offset OEM replicas with 285 55 22 Nitto Trail Grapplers. Linex Pro with premium coating in the bed and top 2" of the tailgate where it sees the most abuse. Weathertech floor liners and rain guards.
    image.jpg Hello everybody.

Posting this to get some ideas and feedback for my truck. Right now I have done factory flares (not pocket style), ready lift 3/2 with 22 inch Toyota replicas wrapped in Nitto Trail Grappler 285 55 22 (34.5"). New wheels have +40 offset and are 22x9.

Thinking of switching out the factory running boards for AMP power steps for a few inches more clearance.image.jpg

I would go smaller wheel size (18") and remove the running boards. If anything, look at the NERF ones.... Remoce all chrome (plast dip or color match) stubby antenna, etc.

^^Thanks, I do like the idea of loosing the chrome. I may switch the Limited grill for a color matched Platinum one. As for the wheels... I won't be doing a ton of off road driving, the bigger wheels handle better down the road since there is less sidewall to roll in the corners. Plus, the 22s look pretty badass, in my opinion. Thanks Sean for the reply

remember on thing about bigger wheels on any car or truck... Bigger diameter wheel WILL and DOES put more STRESS on the wheel bearings and the races making them fail alot faster to do the size and weight moving which it was not intended for from the factory specs.. ... With current bearings in place the bearings are sealed up front causing bearing failure to do wearing out grease at high temps do to stress....... Only remedy in place ( would be a kit alot of american cars have the kit) would be to have larger bearings to handle the load correctly...

The truck came with 20's stock so really what kind of weight difference are we talking about?? Also, there's a lot if weight in bigger more aggressive tires regardless of wheel size...my thought is that if you wanna lift your truck, and change wheel/tire setups, you have to be prepared for a little extra wear and tear, but it's all part of it!

two different weights here. static weight when the truck is parked and rolling weights... for example rolling ... stock tire doing 70 mph is like 2500 pounds in the bearing.... with added rims and tires you are up in the 4000 plus range, not including temp change thats a big part of it here, i didnt add in this example you can bet somewhere in the 30 to 60 degree heat change, if not more honestly if the bearing heats up there goes your mpg even more bearing is less efficient.... . ..With everything sealed there is nothing you can really do honestly just hope a heavier bearing kit is in the works by someone but i honestly bet NOT...

to be up front no one checks wheel bearings till its to late and they fail or worst leaving you on the side of the road for a tow truck... .... I have 260,000 on my tacoma and still on the factory ones.. i keep a eye on them but they still are factory diameter...

    good looking truck man...

    Thanks Mike,
I never thought of it that way... Are you talking centrifugal force? If so, with a balanced wheel would the spinning force of the wheel balance out given the fact that there is always equal weight on the opposite side of the hub?? Thanks for the feedback.

centrifugal force will be on the race part of the bearing that where your wear will start first... in real terms the bearing( not the race part) loads and off loads as it goes around with the weight of the truck from say 4 oclock to say 8 oclock position(loaded) on the bearing looking at it.. .. that is where your wear and failure point in the bearing will come from do to extra weight or forces on it.( bigger tires bigger rims more weight and so on.. )

Even tho say 2 inches in your case in extra in metal, i know the tires are lined more with metal to do the thin sidewall so the tires are heavier say 500 pounds mass moving vs 2 inches of rubber with has a value say 60 pounds for the diameter difference other example.. (less mpg in this case)

This is why i say if you run bigger tires rims make sure the bearings can handle it(via kit for it) ... Also when you think about also your alignment can suffer when tho, they (shop) can get in in SPEC doesnt mean its always right... You have changed the geometry alot up there and the machines are set to factory settings only not for bigger wheels tires and other stuff. When you bring out a roll of twine and a tape measure...

Well, despite all that I'm gonna run it how I have it setup since it rides great and looks even better.

Oh, I did take off the 1.5" wheel spacers I had with the stock wheels, the new wheels are 1" wider and have a +40 instead of the stock +60 offset. The wheels line up perfect with the factory fender flares.

I think it looks good. I would consider 20s if I decide to get rid of the rock warrior wheels.

You can get these wheels in a 20" as well. They are on eBay. Offset is the same though, but with the wheel being an inch wider the spacing works well...

There is a hood on eBay with a functional ram air scoop that would be beautiful with factory paint! It also has integrated vents and is lightweight fiberglass...

That is a great looking truck, the wheels are perfect! How do you like the ready lift ride comfort?
I am thinking a set of those wheels might look good on my 14 Platinum in a 20x9. Do you have any rubbing issues? I am adding the OEM color matched flares this weekend. I am considering Toytec as an option as well.

    Nice choices sir!

I did have some rubbing but it was minor. The ride quality with the ready left is pretty much the same as stock you just feel like you're sitting a little higher. Of course, the mud tires are loud are going down the road but not too bad. My flares are the OEM as well, I didn't feel like the pocket style was for me... Thank you for the feedback!

Hey Shawn, when you ordered your wheels did they come packaged up nicely? How is the wheel quality itself? I may pull the trigger on a pair today. Did you get valve stems? where you able to use you TPMS?
    Thanks,

Hi, yes I have tpms that my mechanic provided, the wheel quality is very good. Seems like a high quality finish. The were packaged very well to prevent damage.

Shawn - I'm new here. My Tundra will be delivered next week. I bought the same rims/tires you have (I haven't seen a better looking truck). Do you have any pics that show the width of the tire and its profile/how it relates to the fender flares? I know you mentioned they line up perfectly...

You hit the nail right on the head. larger wheels with smaller profile tires do very well in handling. However, it does have certain amount of disadvantage in practically every other area, acceleration, stopping, mpg, price of the wheels, price of the tires, wheel protection, and so on.

Having said that, my thinking is that Toyota parts are sturdy enough to not give you any problems for a long time. Look at all Tundras with block leveling kits. So what is comes down to is your preference in looks. I personally prefer smaller wheels and larger tires. But that's just me. I think your truck looks sweet. I like the choice of your wheels and, of course, your choice of tires. Trail Grappler really makes your truck looks beasty. My favorite tires so far, . . . , so I got a set myself, haha.

Window tint was my first mod and I still love it. It really changes the look of the truck.

What are you getting for gas mileage with those big rims?
