Happy Monday to all except for me....

This morning I start up the truck just fine no issues. On the way to work I stop for my Iced Americano like I normally do. Got out of the truck shut it off and locked it. Grabbed my coffee and head back to the truck. I Jump in go to start the truck and CRICKETS! Nothing lights up and truck won't crank.... Get out of the truck checked terminals everything is nice and tight no corrosion. Out of no where battery is dead. Tried to jump it with cables and got a little juice but not enough to start. So I called for a tow. After waiting like 2 hours tow truck shows up connects the jump box to it and starts right up! Clearly my cables are shit and the battery is shit.

I get to work shut it off and won't start again. Weird how it went from working perfectly fine to not working at all!

2017 TRD Pro with 43k miles. Just outside of the 3yr warranty. Local Toyota dealer quoted $130 for a new one...

I cant believe battery only laster me 3 years.

What happened to the batteries in the 3rd Gens? I have a 2014, with 95000 miles and it's still got the original battery. Date on it says 2013, so I assume original. The newer, 2016+ have been having battery issues from what I have been reading.

So I am going to count myself as one of the lucky ones. I should replace it before it dies on me.

Unfortunately for us stock batteries are garbage, mine lasted less than 3 years and only 25,400 miles, same symptoms as yours one day suddenly refused crank/start my truck, fortunately it was still in my garage I was going to start my daily commute to work. Took the battery with me to work and tested the battery and yep was dead :(

Recommend you to buy a AGM battery like Northstar or ODISSEY

Depends where you live. People think that the cold kills batteries, but that is wrong. Cold strains batteries, but heat kills them. Here in southern AZ if you get 3 years out of a battery (any brand) you are lucky. Also, most all of the batteries I've had die suddenly, never giving a slow crank warning.

I've got a 16 Pro and my battery is pretty much dead. It'll slow crank 1 or 2 times and then just click. Same symptoms otherwise. Started perfectly fine less than a week ago and now this. I haven't checked the date yet, but I'd guess it is dated 15 or 16 battery. who knows. I'm trying to figure out if I should charge it and roll the dice or just buy a new one.

Like someone else said above, my experience has been the heat seems to kill them at or just before the 3 year mark without any. I have now gotten in habit of replacing them as PM at that mark regardless of how they test and carry one of the jumpstarter/boosters under backseat.

4 years 3 weeks and 66,000 miles. Will replace it sometime in the next 90 days just to be proactive. Of course I haven't made it those 90 days........................

The summer Texas heat killed two of my batteries. I finally went with an Interstate and so far so good to go before I sold it. We'll see how long this stock lasts me after this coming summer.

That is the way it is with Toyota batteries these days. My 09 and 13 Tacoma gave me a little warning with a couple of slow starts but not my Tundra. Started fine when I left work. Backed up to hook up boat and shut it down. 1/2 later and boom nothing. I went to Wal Mart to get a new battery and they quit selling group 27s with reverse terminals. I guess the normal Wal Mart customers go cheapest with 24s. I went to Wal Mart because I have good luck with their marine batteries. I would have gone to Batteries Plus but neighbor and I have both had bad experiences with our local store.

Well. I guess I’ll bite the bullet and grab a new battery this weekend. Any recommendations?

Get an X2 from batteries plus. It’s a Northstar AGM. Stay away from Optima. Ever since they moved production south of the border they have been mostly garbage.

I agree on the recommendation of the X2 from Batteries Plus. You should be able to find a discount code and maybe get a rebate.

Just to chime in with my experience, my OEM battery in my 2020 Tundra purchased in Dec of ‘19 died suddenly. Went out to head to work and no start. There was enough juice to illuminate the battery light on the dash. I grabbed my little jumper box from the back and was barely able to start it but the truck idled rough, the interior lights were flickering, and the stereo kept rebooting. I shut the truck off. I heard clicking noises in the back, and some from the dash. I wound up disconnecting the battery altogether. Later that day I bought a battery from Costco, dropped it in and now everything seems to be in order. I’ve never had a battery in a vehicle die so suddenly with no warning. I had just checked the fluid level in the battery a few weeks ago and it was perfect. Also I never experienced a vehicle run so poorly with a dead battery after jumping. I didn’t test the battery tested but maybe there were several shorted cells loading down the alternator. My OEM battery lasted 31 months. I plan to replace the Costco Interstate battery when the 36 month free replacement warranty expires. It’s always so inconvenient when the battery dies…

Bumping this thread back up because this just happened to my 2020 with 14k miles. Got home last night with no problem, started the truck this afternoon and had a long start with dome lights blinking. Pulled it out the garage, turned off the engine and wouldn't start back up. Tried to jump it, all the lights back to normal while jumper cables are still connected but still not strong enough to start. Removed the cables and everything died again. Going to Costco tomorrow and get a battery.

Just did the same this week. I got a solid 5 years out of my toyota battery, but picked up a costco interstate 27f for $105. I have found that putting the truck on a charger for 48 hours every 2 to 3 months seems to keep them going a bit longer.

Mine lasted 2 years and 44,500 miles. I was running errands around town, got home parked it when out 2 hours later and it was dead. Swapped it out for an Oriellys super start AGM 3 weeks ago no issues so far.
