My recent annual inspection report says I have two fault codes: P0441 "Evaporative Emission Control System Incorrect Purge Flow" and P0446 "Evaporative Emission Control Sys. Vent Control Circuit Malfunction".

My local auto supply house looked it up and told me it's probably the Evap Control Selenoid Switch so for $60 I replaced it. Didn't work.

Has anyone else had these codes and how'd you deal with them?

    Thanks,

    Mike

There's a vent and purge valve. If you've replaced one it could be the other or it could be a leak in the lines running to it.

The gas cap having a tiny crack, or being after-market and not fitting just right can do it AND mine threw one of these codes recently, on the way home from filling up at my neighborhood Chevron.

A couple days later, we filled our 4R at the same station, then that threw the same code on the way home. My guess is that the slowed rate of gas sales at my local station means gas was sitting in the storage tanks and got kinda funky.

Both trucks are running great, no problems with power, misfires. I’m planning to throw in some treatment and run mine on the freeway, then will fill up at Costco where business has been good and gas will be fresh.

The reason I’m chiming in is, during recent times, a lot of stations probably have old gas, maybe where you filled up.

For $8-10 I’d try a new gas cap from Autozoned before proceeding to more expensive options.

It’s a rather common occurrence with the 5th gen foreunner, and in the persons pic of the CEL you always see a near full tank o guzzoline on the dial.

    Cosmetics only thus far
I'm running into the same issue w/ my 2013. I'm headed to Auto Zone now for a gas cap. Is there any specific fuel additive you recommend?

When my code popped and my High Dolla Service Center recco’d the new cap I did not put any fuel additive in at the same time. Simply just installed new cap and code went away after a few miles.

    If you want: Use Seafoam.
