    I have a 2004 Tundra 4x4 with 176000 miles on it.
I am hearing a grinding noise when I turn the steering wheel either way. I checked the steering fluid and that is ok. Is there a separate belt that runs the PS pump or is that run off the serpentine belt? My serpentine belt was fairly recently changed. Maybe a bad pump? If so is that a major job/expense? Its been a busy week at work so I haven't really got under that hood to investigate. Will do so tomorrow.

I know my PS pump started going at 177k on my 2000 but has hung in there. Definitely no grinding issues though. Is the PS fluid clear or cloudy? I'd also look around your front suspension and tires to ensure something didn't get jammed up in there.

Thanks, Im thinking it could also be a tie rod end or dry ball joints. Will investigate further this weekend

I think that would probably be a more likely source. Good luck and hope it's not an expensive repair.

Issue was dry upper ball joints. No fittings. I pumped some grease in with a pointed grease gun fitting and all went quiet. replacing uppers and lowers next week.
