I just bought a 2007 CrewMax SR5 (my first truck) with 155k miles and am looking for advice on a few projects. I want to improve the fuel efficiency and stay organized in the cab and bed.

    Items Done:
    -Tinted Windows
    -KO2 tires
    -Bedliner
    -Bluetooth

Items Ordered (any tips on install are welcome!):
    1. Tyger T1 Roll Up Tonneau Cover https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LZXTTPJ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
    2. Leekooluu Backup Camera to Rear-View Mirror https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072K27TZ1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
    WHAT SHOULD BE NEXT?

    -SwingCase https://www.amazon.com/UnderCover-S...=swing+case+tundra+2007&qid=1609387317&sr=8-6

-Shorty Antenna (base of current stock antenna is broken anyway) Any suggestions?

-Sequoia Grille install- what do I need besides the grill?

-Headlights- They're stock and they're cloudy and I'd rather upgrade them anyway- Any suggestions?

-Bull Bar- Any suggestions for a lower-profile, flat black one? No extras needed.

-I hear the TRD sway bar is a good investment- is it really worth it?

I was in the same boat not all that long ago. On the antenna, you'll probably find a broken antenna stud in the hole. I ended up drilling into the hole and retapping it (I believe it was an M5).

I started with the AIS bypass kit, front differential bushing from ECGS, and a new leather interior.

There is not much you can do about fuel efficiency in a Tundra other then keeping it stock/unlifted and using mild tread, standard load tires.

TRD rear sway bar is a great and cost effective addition. Here is a review of when I added one to my Tundra. https://www.tundras.com/threads/review-trd-rear-sway-bar-before-and-after.79525/

You can purchase new headlights, but the headlight cleaning kits available now are pretty good and worth a try if your housings are hazy vs damaged. Ive used Mequiars heavy duty kit a few times and was amazed with how well it cleaned the haze. Add some better halogen bulbs like silverstars or similar for a nice improvement to your cleaned/polished housings. That would be inexpensive too, probably 50-60 bucks for the cleaning kit and the new bulbs.

Shorty antenna- do some research and see if that is really what you want. Some folks have reported poor reception. Not much worse than a stereo that gets poor reception and can't get stations. Mods are usually installed to improve a vehicle so the stubby antenna could make performance worse.

Like Frichco said, you can't really improve your economy. Cold air intakes are a waste on our trucks, and a better breathing exhaust actually negatively impacts the performance because the engine needs the back pressure of the stock size pipe.

If you are doing the Sequoia grille then you should also consider the new Sequoia headlights. It absolutely changes the look of the '07-'14 Tundras. Here's a thread on them. https://www.tundras.com/threads/2018-sequoia-led-headlight-harness-for-2nd-gen-tundras.18742/

Congrats on the truck and welcome from Wyoming. Also, :worthless:

Welcome! I echo what the others have said. The TRD sway bar does make a difference and is worth it.

Also, I’ll tow some things but 99% of the time I’ll just have my 100-lb lab in the bed along with some gear. I’d like to eventually level her out after seeing some of the pics on this forum. If I didn’t have kids who struggle climbing up already, a 4-5” lift would be perfect.

Would a leveling kit make it level unloaded but then the nose would ride high when loaded or towing? Is this where airbags come into play? What are the downsides to going that route instead of a leveling kit? Cost?

Nice truck. Congrats. I recently installed Bilstein 5100s all 4. The fronts have 3x different settings for how much you want to raise the truck. Don’t quote me but it’s something like .75/1.5/2.25”. I did mine at the highest. Most add shackles to the rear leaf springs to get 1” of lift or so in the rear. That would keep a slight forward rake in the truck.
I added air bags to the rear so I’m not sure about sag when towing after adding leveling kit/suspension.
There are lots of options for this depending on your budget/performance needs/wants!

For the sequoia grill you will need bulge and the bracket I believe. I just did the 2020 sequoia conversion

Yes on the TRD sway bar, definitely stiffens up the turns. Shorty antenna on Amazon the one they recommend works great for me. As far as fuel efficiently, call it placebo or not, I ran 2 cycles of the 20oz concentrated Techron right before my oil change and not only did it make my engine quiet down a bit, my mpg did slightly improve. Not a miracle cure but I’d say 20 bucks well spent.

also noticed that the truck runs better and smoother on the Toyota 0-20 oil, mobile one seems to have a louder valve noise for some reason, not sure why.

also recently bought Goodyear window visors and was a really good buy looks wise and for all the rain we get over here in Seattle. You can always have airflow without a lot of noise or rain.

your cabin air filter is something you can easily change too.

Can I ask what your all-in cost was for the 4x5100s and rear air bags? That’s my dream setup- maybe a Summer project.

I’ll do the sway bar- been getting 100% positive feedback. Went to the coast today and the turns definitely could’ve felt better.

I think I’ll pull the trigger on the 7” antenna- I don’t do much radio listening, so the loss in reception won’t be a big deal.

The Techron shot sounds like a good idea- I haven’t driven enough to calculate my mpg very accurately, but...I want to get it up to 14 if possible. I think I need to baby it to get there, which isn’t fun. I topped off the tank for the first time and the first 1/4 tank only got me 40 miles. Waiting in the 1/2 tank mark to fill up again and do the math for a more accurate number.

I want the best oil to help me get to 700k miles. If it means using Toyota 0-20, then I’m in.

For the air filters, I’ve never invested in the rinsable (K&N?) ones...are the as good as the one-time-use filters?

    Mike

I bought my 5100s used off of Tundras.com for I think $150 (including springs), $275 for Firestone air bags and like $550 for the EZ wireless air compressor. New price for the bilsteins is under $500 though.

Just ordered the Meguiar’s Headlight treatment...I do love the look of swapping in Sequoia headlights and grille but the price tag is just chunky.

    Thanks for the recommendation,

My antenna gave me no loss of reception! I was surprised. Sounds like you love your truck just like me, I have an 07 purchased it recently and it’s my first truck. Will never buy a ‘car’ again

Installed the rear view camera today. It sticks out way more than I thought it would. I’ll probably modify the little bracket a little bit to bring it in and make it a set angle so I don’t catch my foot on it while stepping on the bumper and mess it up. It came with a whole new rear view mirror with the built-in screen.

It’s HD and 100% better than trying to see through my tinted back window. I’ll never use the actual reflection again.

What made you determine that? I'm interested in some brighter reverse lights in the stock housings. I've heard mixed results with many saying the bulb swaps are a minimal lumen increase(where it matters) at best.

I got lost on some other forum about headlights and lumens and these kept popping up. It’s a rabbit hole, for sure. I wish they’d just have accurate lumen ratings.

It seems like the light won’t be thrown straight back no matter which bulb goes in the stock housing. Pretty sure I’ll end up adding a little bar to throw more light directly behind me.

ok... sounds like you came to the same conclusion as i did. in a similar manner to the way i did, lol. ive replaced a lot of reverse lights on a few different cars, and each and every time, someone was ravign about how much brighter they were, and all that changed was going from a warmer white to a bluer white, with more spill and more light in places i didnt need it. amazes me how much effort people will go through to justify a purchase...

ill probably end up doing exactly what you're saying. a small bar or cube under the bumper.

i bought my tundra recently and am looking into some of the similar mods as you, so ill be keeping an eye on this thread. for me my list is tonneau cover(gator enroute), head unit w/android auto and/or bluetooth, oil filter cap, vent visors, and eventually a leveling kit when i swap out my basic bitch wheels/tires. thinking minimal. ohh, and i need to do the diy info button addition.

Quick search for "Go Rhino Bull bar tundra" gets some decent results. Any trip your trigger?

Thanks- These are definitely closer to what I’m looking for. I actually just picked up a welder and might give it a go myself. I used to weld every day when I was 20. It’ll be ugly...but hopefully nothing an angle grinder can’t take care of! Thinking of using something different than the generic 3” tubes...thinking about rectangular square tubing...

I sure liked the look of the Go Rhino RC3, but apparently it won't fit a gen 2.
