    Hey everyone,

First Tundra spec ever, thoughts? Haven't bought yet, seeking them opinions. Back in October I test drove a '21 Tundra SR5 TRD Sport CrewMax, MGM. Lets just say I borrowed it from the dealership for an extended amount of time, had the wife drive it, made sure it fit in the garage and ensured it checked all the boxes for my wish list... slam dunk boys! Daily driver, hauling a boat, camper, mulch and dirt etc. in the bed, nothing too crazy. I'll include the pictures :)

This one has unfortunately sold so I'll have to locate or order. Highlighted Spec Sheet:
    5.7L, of course.
    2021 TRD Sport Crewmax
    SR5 Upgrade Package
    TRD Sport Convenience Package
    Tailgate Lock
    Console Vault - LOVE this
    TRD Front Skid Plate
    Spray on bed liner
    Black Chrome Exhaust
    Door Edge Guard

Omitting the black emblem overlay, I can do this myself with Plasti Dip, right?

Thanks for the comments and suggestions!
    Josh

I think you will love it. You can have issues w/any manufacturer but a lot better chance having no issues with a Tundra are much greater. Love my 2020 Crewmax and you are looking at a great color.

You can't go wrong with that truck, but I would suggest the limited. The cloth seats are pretty bad, and stain easily. It's a good truck, but I'm not sure why you'd want to buy the last year of a 14 year old powertrain and truck. The most recent meaningful addition besides the push start and 8 in screen, was back in 2014 with the Entune 2.0. Ever thought about venturing domestic and getting your money's worth?

only thing you may even want to consider is Toyota is about to release an all new tundra from the ground up, so you could see what thats about and then it thats crap, there will still be plenty of 2021 around to buy.

other than that, looks like a nice truck, I like the no chrome !

The limited are nice, I agree and leather would be a nice plus. This is me thinking the cloth seats were pretty durable due to the number of used options I've seen, seat covers are on the radar too. As far as the 14 y/o powertrain, I know it's aged a "few" years but reliability's been proven accompanied by the V8 engine, last of its kind. I'm not sure what to expect from these new V6 only options. I'm sure I'm not the only one which I'm sure has been covered on here quite a lot.

It does have me treading cautiously, the new Tundra is around the corner. Toyota's trend though has always been extremely positive with most new releases. Oh yes, no Chrome! :headbang:

Disagree with the cloth seat comment. I think the cloth is very durable and comfy. Have seen many used Tundras with cloth seats and must say they have held up nicely. My current Tundra has leather but have had an 03/08/and a 13 with cloth and 0 issues with wear/stains. My 2020 Limited leather seats are not very comfy, too hard for me

I have owned vehicles with leather seating for many years. My Tundra has the cloth seats and I am fine with them. They are comfortable and after 15k miles have not experienced any issues with staining. Also I have no need for heat or ventilation as is common with leather seating.

I also like the old school V8 and its long-term record of reliability and strong resale value. ...

You will love it for many years. Only thing is the truck will out last you. Great tried and true engine.

You have not owned a cloth tundra, correct? I owned a 2017 Sr5 Upgrade package Tundra, and the cloth seats got stained on the first day. They're terrible. Trust me OP. Don't take hearsay to heart. I have lived it.

I have pictures of the stains from the seats that happened within a day of having the truck. They're incredibly porous, and nothing like the other manufacturer's cloth seats. My argument is that, if possible get leather.

The strong resale value will diminish greatly once this new gen goes on the market. The V8 and long-term reliability are now solely due to having 14 years to figure it all out. It's absurd that anyone would still spend 40-55k for a product that hasn't had an engineer's thoughtful imagination at play in over a decade.

Or the resale value will increases when people wanting the v8 tundra can no longer buy a new one. That would be a great time to trade in and get the new one, unless you don't want a v6tt.

You’re going to love that truck. For the cost of the limited, you have cheaper options with “factory like” leather going aftermarket. As for the new release...
I wouldn’t buy one until the second year. That’s just me personally. That’s why I bought a ‘21 mgm

I'd still go cloth, and then get katzkinz later. Personal preference.

Same goes for the "absurd" part. I specifically went for the 2019 Tundra instead of a 2020 because they were dicking with it in ways I didn't like. Some of us specifically go for the end of an era kind of vehicles for the exact reason that it hasn't had an engineer "play" with it to muck things up. Not saying other vehicles will be mucked up or anything, just that one man's trash... I truly hope I don't ever have to buy a truck again in my lifetime, and the 13 year old, proven beyond a doubt, simple truck that is the Tundra was my best bet to achieve that goal. Reliability was the paramount concern, and no other full size truck matches the Tundra for it.

Enough of all that nonsense. @OHw3ndlingTRD the only way you can go wrong with the Tundra is if you plan to tow or load more that it's rated for. As @TundraLaw said, it's an old platform and so it still has the payload numbers of a 2007 truck. This is due to its thin leaf springs. Less than 3 inches wide IIRC. If you are happy staying within the limits of the Tundra, then you won't find a better 1/2 ton truck IMO.

Just curious... did you ever have the fabric shampooed by a dealer? I find it hard to believe the stains wouldn’t come out if treated fairly soon.

@OHw3ndlingTRD Go for it! Sounds like you’ve done your research. I agree you know exactly what you will be getting....unlike the 2022. Maybe the 2022 will have cardboard wheel wells like a gmc.

Edit: please don’t start another mpg thread after you buy it though!

Another Edit: I heard that anything with even a hint of blue in it is actually the fastest color.

Welcome from Central Texas! Also, look at the half console safes - one of my other Tundras had the full safe and it was nice but you lose a lot of space to toss shit into your console without having to lock and unlock all of the time. The 1/2 console safe gives you the best of both.

That's wishful thinking. I've never seen an outgoing generation have higher resale. That is just a groupthink mentality of this forum IMO.

Why would you get cloth seats, and then every single time you use your truck like a truck, or take your dog with you, needing to take it to the dealer to get "factory shampooed"-- doesn't make sense.

I agree with some of what you said, but Katzkin may be good, but it's no good on the resale value. sr5 gets far far less than any limited, any day.

Definitely didn't. If it did, it must've been for a week or two, just like any overreaction in the stock market.

True, but if you plan to drive it until the wheels fall off then who cares about resale? That's my goal right now anyway.
