Hello. I'm new to Tundras.com and thought I'd say hello. I'm picking up a 2006 DC with 169,000 miles on it tomorrow and, based on what I've seen, this truck needs nothing more than normal maintenance. The truck has a reasonably good maintenance history. I plan on changing/checking all the fluids and driving the heck out of it.

I've also got a 1999 Tacoma and will probably keep it for a bit as a backup, but it has 300K on it and is starting to have all kinds of little failures that I need to keep up with and it may need more attention that I have time to give it at as a main-mode-of-transportation. I'd keep it forever if I didn't have to depend on it for longer trips. Oh well, at least buying these things used gives me a long time to say goodbye without any financial stress.

If any of you suggest I do anything in particular to the tundra beside giving it a very good cleaning and inspection, please feel chime. My short list is as follows:

    • Good exterior and interior cleaning (always a good opportunity to spot issues)
    • Clean air filter and MAF
    • Change oils (all)
    • Change antifreeze
    • Check spark plugs
    • Inspect all vacuum hoses
    • Lube all seals, locks, hinges

Welcome aboard! In addition to what others said, lube your seat rails, if it is 4WD try engaging both 4-HI and 4-LO and drive at least a few feet to make sure that system is alright.

Thanks all for the replies and additional items to check. I'll post pics once I get a chance to wash it. We've had snow since I purchased it and so it is covered in yuck.

Go to Costco and pickup some batter tenders. They come with a quick connect to attached to the battery. I've put them on all my stuff that sits over the winter and rarely have a battery problem. With the exception of a lawn mower where my grand kids turned on the ignition and I didn't catch it--my bad for leaving the key in it. I rarely have a battery problem now that I'm using the battery tenders, the batteries seem to last a few years longer.
