So i was told by the tire shop i just had my tires installed at ,that i will need tpms sensor soon ,but he didn't know i used to be a mechanic, an i know there is pretty much only one way to know your sensors are bad ,is when one goes out ,typical life of them are from 5 to 10 years , they just have ,a watch battery pretty much , but my question is there are alot of good aftermarket parts out ,but are tpms sensors are one of those parts you just stick with at the dealership? Or is there good aftermarket ones ? Oh an ive heard there are different ones ,like for different types of rims is this true ?

    Alot of them
There are different types. Steel wheels for example use a different sensor than alloy wheels. I would just get OEM sensors. I ordered some for my 2020 and they were about $62.00 each.

I put aftermarket Autel sensors on my Alloy wheels when I upgraded from my steelies. They work great no issues.

There was a guy on here who had issues with his tpms after getting new tires. If I remember right, it turned out the shop broke one and put an aftermarket one in it’s place. He couldn’t get it to sync. He had to go back and get them to put an oem one in. I think he had a 2020.

Not sure about that dudes experience but don’t think you HAVE to use OEM sensors. I have aftermarket sensors on my 2019 and they work perfectly! I’ve read something changed with the 2020 model year but in my case the aftermarket sensors worked just fine.

My only thing is ,those autel have to be programed, I'll have to find if dealership can do them ,or someone who can .

The Toyota tpms (specifically the active tpms) is kinda finicky, in my experience, when replacing with aftermarket (I.E dill 7002 and 7003... depending on model/year of vehicle) to get it to work correctly you would need to replace all 4 sensors.... otherwise the tire installer will be able to get the MIL off but probably will not read the active pressures in the dash!

I am looking for a whole set to go into rims I just got and there seem to be $30 sensors that will fit both Steel and Alloy wheels too and from reliable makers to boot!

    https://www.tpms.com/Toyota-Tundra-Huf-IntelliSens-TPMS-Sensor-p/h0072-toyota-tundra.htm

And there are even cheaper ones on Amazon that claim to be preprogrammed?

    https://www.amazon.com/Replacement-...31-6----8-1---&vehicleName=2015+Toyota+Tundra

I really dont know what to think?

Personally based upon my experience as a tire guy, the 7002A from dill is the way to go!
    https://www.tpms.com/7002A-Dill-Redi-Sensor-p/7002a.htm

Any of these will have to be programmed to the vehicle, the easiest is just stop at ur local Costco and let them just unlock and scan them... Bartech scan tool is an awesome piece of equipment, and you can skip the whole deflate, re-inflate headache :)

Yes the 2020 is different and needs OEM sensors. I have mine and waiting to finish running my tires down.

I have a 20 Tundra Platinum and used aftermarket sensors from TireRack.com. I had to buy a TMPS programmer but now if I decided to change my wheels, it is pretty simple to program the TMPS sensors.

Have them clone the original sensor IDs. That way you don't need to reprogram the truck ECU as well. I have used autel in all 4 of my vehicles, zero issues in over 6 years.

Did you have to or can a tire shop do this on the cheap?
