My area just got hit by cat thieves. Anyone have any pics of cat protectors for a 1st gen? I dont want to run a full sheet of steel, so may just use some sq tube and expanded steel. Use the rear bolt of the front swaybar and then a trans crossmember bolt.

I just fabbed up some for my 3rd gen but I have a trans skid on it so it was simple to build some wings out if expanded steel to cover the cats.

I haven't seen anything specifically for that. One company made a trans skid plate that has wings on the sides to block the cats. OR Fab was the company, I have one in my garage that I never find time to install.

Thanks, that helps. This is for my retired mom’s truck, she cant afford to replace the cats if they get stolen. I may just have to go get a sheet of steel and bend/weld it up.

Sounds like a quick and cheap solution to this problem. Do pics for us, please!

My area has been getting hit hard as well. I took my tundra in too get my rotors shaved down and the mechanic came out and said cats have been getting stolen like crazy and they just started this new program where they spray it with some paint and Scratch a serial number Into it. I guess when the thieves see this number and the way it’s sprayed they can’t sell it without getting caught. Also they will put a Small window sticker (optional) In the corner of your back windshield as kind of a warning sign so thieves know it’s a waste of time.
Also, they did this for FREE. I can send you a pic of how they did mine for a reference. Hope this helps

If they can cut the cat out, can't they also cut that chain?

Yes but it takes longer and can be a deterrent. This has been a big deal all over nor cal this and last year. An AT&T yard got 12 cut out the other night in Napa, right after replacing 15 the month before.

From how ballsy the thieves are in California the chain wouldn't stop them. My friend had his stolen at his wife's work in daylight, shes a teacher at a Christian school.

    That rebar cage though :hattip:
