Has anyone had problem with there struts leaking? My 2020 truck has less than 10,000 miles and the one of my rear struts is leaking. Toyota says it’s not “leaking enough” to replace yet even though it’s under warranty.

wondering if this is a coming problem?
Is it worth upgrading the struts and paying for the upgrade?

Heck no, don't spend your $ unless you wanted to upgrade the suspension anyway. Should be a warranty repair, shocks should not leak, even a little. I would keep pushing on it and/or hit up another local dealer. Any of them can perform warranty work.

So how much is a little leaking?

BoerboelTundra you have shocks in the rear.
Take a some oil of sort in a squeeze bottle and squirt it somewhere at the top of the boot or shock so its "wet enough to replace it" then make another service appointment stating your complaint is now a drip or puddle under that particular side of the truck.
(I work for a dealership and "its all in how you word or explain the concern"
    Good Luck

A leaking strut is a blown strut, they can't be repaired, leak will only get worse.

If it's wet at all, it's "wet enough" since shocks are supposed to be sealed. :der:

Try a different dealer. Look and ask around for ones in your area with a service department known for better service.

I had a 5160s from factory on my last Tacoma and one had a slight leak. Dealer replaced under warranty. Only problem was they ordered the wrong shock. They had never seen a Tacoma with remote resi's

Sounds like a good time to throw some 6112s on there

Don't be afraid to play a liability card if needed by putting them on notice. "If a strut is leaking fluid, this severely impacts its ability to absorb the wheels impact from the road. This means that the wheels are less likely to stay in contact with the road than if the struts were working properly. As the wheels have less resistance, this makes them more prone to an uncontrollable bounce, which can eventually make driving dangerous and increase the likelihood of an accident, especially during adverse weather".

Like others said, once the seal is blown the shock will continue to leak until there isn’t enough to provide any dampening and no way to fix it unless its rebuildable, which stock shocks are not. You could try what others said about squirting some oil on it, go to a really bumpy road right before going to the dealer, or try a different dealer and be that person that won’t leave until it’s fixed.

I have read where people drive for years on a leaking shock. My 6112s leaked after about 6 mo and I drove for awhile before replacing it. So if you don’t get in right away, it shouldn’t hurt anything. It’ll only get worse and your have a warranty for a few more years.

Can you post a picture of it?

Like others said - don’t accept the service writers response. Escalate - speak to the service manager and if you don’t get resolution call Toyota and file a complaint. I sold my F-150 for a lot of reasons including shitty dealer and Ford Corporate. I will never buy a Ford again because of their inability to foster a good customer experience.

If Chevys weren’t such shitty trucks I’d buy one, I have a great local dealer but I hate the newer Chevy trucks.
