Hey all I really need some help figuring out the sound system on my first Gen. I swear there’s a way to use an aux port in it without swapping head units just with a cord. Really needing some help as this is starting to get frustrating. I purchased a cord that goes in the rear audio inputs (red and white) and can’t get this to work either. I’m at my wits end.

I do have the JBL system in the truck as well. With the navigation system.

Post a pic of your headunit. Is it the factory Toyota headunit? I am not familiar with any red/white inputs on the back of those. My 05 DC had CD unit from factory but no JBL so maybe the JBL unit does have RCA inputs on the back? Pics will help us help you out better.

Dating myself here, but my first tundra had a tape deck. I used an adaptor to plug in my iPhone, and it worked great.

I will post in a second. I have the big sorta clunky touchscreen and it has two CD players behind it as well as the DVD player in the center console. Give me a couple mins and I’ll have come pics. The two plugs I used are on the back of the center console.

Also yes, it is the factory head unit.

I’m pretty cheap just so you guys know but I would be willing to pay for something that works. However the cheapest solution would be best.

That headunit pic doesn't help much. Can you post a clear one up closer? I think I found a similar headunit on eBay and will try to find info in the manual for it to see about getting the rca input working.

That's the same one I found but I haven't been able to find anything regarding those audio/video jacks in the console. I think, I think they may be part of the entertainment system with video screens for the DVD player. I'll keep looking.

Check the build link in my signature.
You have a rear DVD unit? Those audio jacks are for the rear seat entertainment to play sound if you hooked up a video game console for the kids in the back seat.

my guess is that to hear audio from them you may need to switch the head unit over to the DVD or RSES (rear seat entertainment system) setting if it has one or the other. And not sure how that works if you’re trying to use Nav or anything else (or how it works with when driving).

you should be able to get the manuals here:
    https://www.toyota.com/owners/resources/warranty-owners-manuals/tundra/2006

You might need to use the remote for the DVD system to set it/switch it to the right settings

Found some info but not much. The way I'm reading it, I feel those a/v inputs are only for an a/v device that would play back video on the rear screens and audio through the headphone jacks on the back of the console near the a/v inputs. For example, kiddoes playing a nintendo gaming system on the back screens and listening to the audio on the headphones connected to the headphone jacks. I don't think the a/v inputs are wired to play sound through the front speakers. That's a bummer. Then again, it does appear to be part of the Rear Seat Entertainment System.

I saw somewhere else where it mentioned pressing the DISC button on the headunit faceplate but that may be just for the DVD player already in the console not those a/v inputs. Not sure.

Sorry all for the late response. Had a pretty busy day. Sorry about the head unit pic @artsr2002 and yes @1lowlife that is my head unit. @RainMan_PNW I do have the rear entertainment system. I was hoping those cords to the back would work.

as for pressing disc, it doesn’t work. I’m pretty sure I’ve tried every possible thing without removing anything. @artsr2002 I will look at that post. I will let you all know what happens. Thanks!

Pretty late here but believe if you want AUX you'll need to add an adapter to the back of the head unit; something like a GTA kit (assuming you have an unused plug for a CD changer on the back of the head unit). I use the GTA kit and am happy with it. It provides BT, hands free call receiving (with a mic), an AUX and a USB charger. And you still retain the steering wheel controls.

I have the cheaper version of the Rear Entertainment system (called Rear Seat Audio) that allows me to listen to one source up front and the backseat passengers a different source thru headphones BUT both sources come from the head unit already (FM, CD, cassette).

    Good luck!
