I worked as a cook in high school and we used to send the new guys to get the “grill stretcher” when we would get busy.

Woodshop class in high school. Our teacher was a spitting image of Red Foreman. I remember numerous times where he sent the class moron on a lengthy search for the “board stretcher.”

Worked at a restaurant for 6 years. They sent a new guy across the street to get the chicken stretcher they loaned out. That manager caught on to the joke and sent him about a half mile down the road to another restaurant. He ended up at 3 places before they broke the news to him. I heard he was so embarrassed he quit.

Those are the best of the best TRD wheels in my opinion, great choice.

Some of the stuff we did to new guys at the plumbing shop were not legal. Drinking beer from a plunger was the real initiation, but we did other crap too like sending them to look for copper gas lines or "rectum seal".

Man line crews have so many stories,

we had a re-conduct job out in Orla,Texas. Ground hands from California. We’re setting up the wire pulling rig, and convinced him he needs to take a sledge hammer, beat the static electricity out the ground, take the ground chain with one end connected to the t-ground ,and drag in a circle around a rubber blanket. This ensures no static is picked up by the wire reel. Poor dude went on for like 20 minutes like this.

Not mine but stopped and checked out one of the nicest late 80's 22re I have seen. That was my first vehicle so I thought it was pretty awesome. 806A0CFB-FA7F-430B-B4AE-DCD478092124.jpg

Oh! I forgot to do updates since I was eyes deep in this project during my involuntary vacation. But here ya go.

A little back story, I’ve never painted anything in my life that didn’t involve a roller or a rattle can. I asked a buddy who owns a body shop what he would charge... $1100. Well, I bought the shell for $120 so... I’m not gonna ruin my good deal. Guess it’s time to learn auto paint. So I spent a few days watching YouTube videos from Car Addict Garage and Paint Society, a few hours at my local paint supply, and a few nights wondering if I had bitten off more than I could chew.

Well with a $15 harbor freight paint gun, a cheap box fan, a bunch of drop cloth, way more sandpaper than I needed, an insane amount of grace and understanding from my wife and about $230 in 2K primer, paint and clear... I’d say, I think I learned how to paint. Would I do it again? Maybe. If I was like really, really desperate.

Pics here as to not clutter the feed:

Like I said there are way cheaper options now. When I got these maybe 8 years ago they were about $150 and Rigid had the market cornered. There weren't so many others like there are today.

I don't feel too bad though, they've been through snow, mud, lots of rain storms and still work fine.

    @jpink, @MrDirtjumper, and @Darkness.

I'm going to use some aluminum brackets to mount these off of. That way I can rotate, and pivot up/down without any issues. Hopefully those brackets will work.

I got them out of the scrap metal bin at work.

Right on, I literally have no idea where they’re going to end up yet. It’s likely I’m going to wire them up first, see how they cast, and then determine where they should be mounted.

I posted in the lunchtable thread about my Flex shot water proofing. I like putting in a little extra work to make cheap items better.

Planning on mounting them where @Darkness has his for that hidden look.

Editing in a link to that post.

Maintenance tech. I have to "Play around" with settings until I find something that works to make a good part. My whole job is "Play Around, and figure it out."

I will testify to the fact that the years I spent doing car audio gave me the skills to be creative and adapt to literally any situation that was put in front of me. When I came in to work, I had no idea if I was doing a satellite radio in a 64 Corvair or a remote start on a 2010 X5.

Then I went from 12v to HVAC controls and service. Having to fix something at 2am on call that was wired in 1970 will teach you how to play around and figure it out REAL quick.

Eventually I got tired of late hours and killing my body so I went back to school. My natural state is tinker and figure it out so it’s super nice to have the structure at work but have the freedom to be creative in what I want to do and learn at home.

I can certainly understand where you're coming from on the bolded section.

This job is teaching me to be flexible with solutions, but sometimes I still get wrapped up in the problem, and cannot see the solution(s.)

This tundra is my first deep dive into automotive work with the exception of oil changes.

More schooling may be in my future.

Based on posts, and keeping a moderate expectation I was guestimating late 30's-early 40's.

How old do you think I am based on posts?

@jpink here is some motivation for that area under the battery. I brushed and sanded as much rust as I could, then I hit it with some Rustoleum that you spray over rust. Then I used my DupliColor Natural White(my paint color code)

Maintenance jobs definitely have a way of testing your way of thinking.

I spent more time than I care to about chasing an electrical problem with a pitching machine the other day. Wire to activate it showed correct voltage and good continuity but once the machine was powered up it wouldn't work.

Replaced the whole wire and it worked fine. There were a few cuts in the jacket that allowed the wire to corrode just enough to screw it up but still test ok.

@FirstGenVol thats one of the first things I’m gonna do! I have the fancy new TRD battery hold down made by @Coupe and a new battery tray. Old one was very very flimsy. New one is flexible but not flimsy.

I’m stoked to rip it all apart lol I don’t know why.

When I was new at this job I chased a ghost problem. Machine had power, but nothing would power up. No lights, nothing.

Chased it for an hour, and finally called for help over the radio. The seasoned vets showed up, and I explained what I had checked already. They agreed that all things were good in those areas. We looked for another 30 minutes in vain for where we were losing control voltage.

One guy who just came from break walked up, and slammed a door on the back of the machine shut. Power came on. He smiled this big ole grin, and said "that happened to me last week, but I didn't tell anybody." He laughed this belly laugh, and I walked away defeated.

It drove home the KISS principle. Keep it simple, stupid. :tinfoilhat:

The seasoned vets were giving me a hard time about it until I brought you that they were stumped too.
