Hey there, new Tundra owner here. Been driving a 2000 SR5 4Runner for the last 20 years (295k and still going strong) but after test driving a new 2021 4Runner, wasn’t impressed and went straight for the Tundra. Picked it up on Tuesday and couldn’t be happier!!
Planning on lots of upgrades but one in particular is a lift with tire and wheel upgrades. My salesman told me that my warranty would still be valid as long as I didn’t go much larger than a 3” lift and had a ‘certified’ installer do the work. Anyone have any experience/knowledge about this?6555453F-38FA-43EB-BA26-268C39265818.jpg

Too funny kingsAustin, this was sitting right next to a black and magnetic grey 2021 nightshade edition and it was hard choosing between the 3.

Re: the lift, my local Toyota dealership (Toyota Cool Springs in Franklin, TN) installs lifts. Charged $400 to install the 3" ReadyLift i got off Amazon. I'm long out of my warranty, but it wouldn't affect it anyways they said.

    Welcome from Utah.
As for your question, the Magnusson-Moss Act (federal law) permits you to use non-manufacturer parts without invalidating your warranty. However, IF the manufacturer can prove that the non-manufacturer part caused the malfunction then it is not required to honor the warranty. For example, you install a lift kit and your radio fails. Your warranty on the radio has nothing to do with the lift kit and the manufacturer must honor its radio warranty. If you install a lift kit and the tie rod fails AND the manufacturer can prove that the lift kit caused the tie rod failure then it need not honor the warranty.
Practical reality - If you have your dealer do the install and there is a failure then the manufacturer looks to the dealer to decide whether to honor the warranty and the dealer will most likely say it did not do faulty work and tell the manufacturer to honor the warranty.
I also note that in 2011 Congress passed the motor vehicle Right to Repair Act that requires manufacturers to supply information on how to diagnose and repair vehicles and provide access to tools necessary to do so.
