I own a 1st Gen Toyota Tundra and I'm very interested in installing a turbocharger which I have seen across this forum a couple of times. A couple of people said just to buy a supercharger but i cant seem to find any for my truck which brings me back to the Turbo. My truck is still pretty stock and I was wondering what modifications should I make before installing a turbo and also if anyone could point me in the right direction on where to do more research on turbos.

I would love to see someone attempt this kit. Seen it for a long time on the internet. I wish they had taken more pics from different angles

That's a great option for cheap. your only problem is going to be tuning. You'll likely need to go completely custom tuning, which is spendy.

If I was going to turbo an older engine, I would at least do a compression check across all the cylinders. When you turbo something, you'll be creating increased crank case pressures. I personally would like to know if my rings are sealing properly still. Also, make sure to check your valve cover gaskets as they can blow out due to the increase crank case pressure. Check/change your trans fluid, make sure you're still getting proper lockup with the TC. If you're having issues now, the extra power may speed you up towards a replacement or rebuild.

The 4.7 can take boost. Just not a lot. I think 6 psi is like max safe boost.. connecting rods are weak on these engines

When it comes to custom tuning where would I have to go?

The truck is running great and has been for years (was my dads before being mine) but I will check everything and post my results soon!

Compression seems to be good, im getting around 170 psi for each cylinder.

Also think I need to clean the engine bay just so it looks a little nicer when I throw in the turbo.

I also have purchased the turbo kit for my Tundra. I have yet to install it, it's my daily. I might try and boost it on stock a ECU, when I finally get around to it

    ***QUICK UPDATE***

I'm currently in the process of decking out my truck I purchased new fuel injectors which should also make better use of the Turbo. I finished installing the inverter and ran an extension cable from the back of the truck to the front. http://dirtydeedsindustries.com/product/fuel-injectors/

Digging around the memory bank (I'm getting old) I remember many companies trying to turbo Toyota vehicles and the end result was the end of the project. The engines usually blow and the tuning was an issue. I do know that some have finally been able to crack the toyota cpu but I don't know if our cpu is on the list.
I always thought that at some point in time we would see a cpu specialist for toyota like Hondata is for Honda, unfortunately.....

@ViktorG might be a very valuable member to talk to @TruckGoBurr

I love the idea of boosting, even a small amount of boost makes for a safe/better time

    Yes I understand that.
    @TruckGoBurr
He also is a custom tuner. So might be helpful for someone who wants to ask computer tuning questions too. And he’s a Toyota mechanic as well. I’m sure he’s seen a 4.7 a coup times?

I'm seeing this just after I purchased this: https://jetchip.com/shop/chips-modules-programmers/v-force/jet-v-force-plus-performance-module-8/, but I will update you guys when it gets here. (Also you get 25% off promo code so if anyone's interested). The fuel injectors came in yesterday and I'll be updating you guys on that shortly as well. Also should I make a YouTube channel to document the progression of my truck, so far its still pretty much stock with a straight pipe and new headlights?

*Just realized that the tunes you showed me are for the tuner I bought so ill look into those.*
