so I purchased my truck about 1 month ago and the previous owner left the hitch on there with a master lock, lock. I would like to remove this lock so I can remove the lock. Any ideas on the best way to do this? IMG_6970.jpgIMG_6969.jpg

How many locks can a lock get if a lock would lock, lock?

Damn, I didn't review my thread before posting it. I got a little crazy with the word "lock".

I am afraid that I will cut into my hitch attached to my truck. I don't really have any tools, but I'm pretty sure Home Depot rents these tools out.

Should be easy to avoid the hitch with a sawzall and metal blade.

Oh ok. I will go to the Home Depot this weekend and see what I can find. I want to get this thing removed sooner than later.

I was looking to buy that pin. It is not a lock. You should be able to pull the blue pin out and straighten it out so you can pull the pin out.

Anyone in your area have a Cutting torch that you know?

    Easy as pie.

Cutting wheel idea would work great as well.

that's not a lock, the blue part will slightly lift up and flip down so you can pull the pin out.

Yea check it out a little better before you go cutting. Might not be a lock like @BlueBottle said.
If it is the use a grinder with cutting wheel. You will have better luck cutting it.

This is why I don't use locking hitch pins anymore. The minnesota weather and salt ceases them up. I second the sawzall or grinder. I've had to cut my own several times. It's a big inconvenience when you need to swap ball sizes and can't because the pin won't come out.

But I think you need to have a key for it to unlock and be able to pull out and up. I'm stuck because the guy that sold me the truck. Ever gave me the key so I have to figure out how to get this thing out. I will try to look at this once I get home from work today. Thanks for all the tips guys.

Does that pin under the blue tab go all the way through? If so take a hammer and a punch and pop it out should release the whole blue part. Just an idea and might be less work than cutting/grinding

Smash it with a hammer. How strong can a $5 lock be? Otherwise, $13 at harbor freight

Good buy at HF too! Mine's lasted about 13 years and I think when I bought it online it was $9.99. I only use it about every week in the summer cutting stuff on race cars...

That doesn't look like a lock, it's like others said, pull up on the blue sleeve and pull down. If it's stuck, try getting a flathead and prying it up, still sticking, tap around with a hammer to loosen whatever's seizing it up and try prying it up again. If all fails, sawzall or grinder.

Don't forget safety glasses and don't sit in front of the yellow/orange debis flying out....hot metal flecks in the eye SUCK!!
