Have a 14 SR Tundra and have been looking at tacoma steering wheels cause I like the leather and want volume control. Trying to kill 2 birds with 1 stone but curious if anyone has swapped with a wheel that has a different button layout?

Mine has no controls on the left and just the phone controls/ disp button on the right. This one is right up the street from me for a hell of a price and would love to swap it out but not sure that it would function correctly. Anyone tried this?

I'm pretty sure its a direct swap, minus the items you're not adding, so you'll have some hanging pig tails to tuck... I'd suggest remove your airbag and plug and play to see if stuff works. Obviously you will have to disconnect and reconnect your battery in the process... or compare the images you see, to your connectors just to verify, but I'm 90% sure it'll swap over.

What do you mean the items I'm not adding? Just to clarify I currently ONLY have phone buttons and the disp button. Would be adding radio controls, etc. I know its no problem apparently when adding other tundra wheels but with these buttons in a completely different layout I was curious if it would work.

Appreciate the quick replies! Guess I'll be giving them a call tomorrow. For 125 bucks it might be worth the risk

Alright so got the wheel in last night and just tried installing the controls to see if they would even work. Nope, totally different connector. I guess they changed the connector between years. The white is what I have on my 14 and the black is what was on the tacoma wheel. Thankfully I can return it Monday and found a 4runner wheel that will definitely work for the same price. Just have to wait

Not sure the question. The controls from both sides all go to one connector. Just happens the connectors were different so I'll have to get a wheel with the silver volume button where that black phone button was

Right. Sorry. I'm looking to do the same thing to my 2014 sr. Was trying to confirm that it was going to work. Plug and play.

If you look at the original picture I posted, that wheel will not work. My new one should be in tomorrow and I'm 99% sure it will, plug and play. Has this button layout. Probably be Friday night when I get it on but I'll update when I do.

Sorry if my wording is confusing. I understood all of your posts but was just trying to figure out if the plug was behind the air bag or not. It sounds like toyota installed the harness but not the accessory.

Yeah you have to take the airbag out to get to it. Plenty of write ups on here and it's super easy, just be sure to disconnect the battery first

Well. Got the controls in and no dice. The right side works (where I already had buttons) and on the left side the only thing that works is the audio mode button. No volume, no left right up down select.

Whole thing illuminates and that one button works which makes me wonder if it's because I have the bottom of the line entune?

Getting my new radio in Monday and was hoping to have it working for maestro.

    SOMEONE GIVE ME THEIR KNOWLEDGE

When you plugged the controls into the factory harness, did you notice if there were wires/pins matching every position on both sides of the plug?

obviously the controls have all the needed wires... the concern is whether your truck has the mating wires running to the back of the head unit (whether your factory heads unit will use them is a different issue).

If all the wires are paired up and run to the back of the head unit, then you should have no issues with the maestro.

So I haven't actually looked myself but did some research on the other forum and someone said the issue is there's two missing wires that have to be added from where the controls plug in to a harness on the back of the radio. Hopefully I can still flash the maestro all the same and then just add those wires at some other point because that does not sound like something I wanna do right now lol

    Disappointing.
I have already upgraded my stereo and should be getting the controls any day now.
Do you have the link where read about the two wires?

If anyone knows where connectors J139 and J45 are located that would also be a huge help.

That'd be awesome! Pretty sure J45 is behind the steering wheel, not sure if it's the one I plugged into or not. And I believe J139 is one of the radio plugs just not sure which

J45 is the spiral cable on the steering wheel, and J139 is one of many that goes in the back of the NON-navigation head unit. Attached is the 2015 EWD for the Audio system in a truck that does not have the separate amp and does not have JBL. This will show all the wires that you need to run.

Ill have to find the spiral cable but should be able to figure out 139 by the number of pins. Hopefully lol it will have to wait until after the holidays but I'll try to get some pics when I do it for future reference to those that want to try it. For now I'm gonna try to flash the maestro as if I have the controls so I dont have to do a whole reflash later. Thanks for getting those connector pictures!

I am waiting for the controls now. Should be here today or tomorrow. I would love to know exactly what you do to gain the left hand controls for volume and such.

Appreciate current and future updates as I am trying to do this to my SR.

Spiral cable is also known as the clock spring - its a module at the steering wheel/ column interface that allows the electrical connections to continue thru to the wheel controls. The J45 connector will come up from the steering column and plug into the stationary part of that module.

if you check it, you need to confirm if it has wires running to the pin-outs for the audio controls in the 3, 4, 5, and 6 positions.

Haha. I did upgrade my stereo to an updated entune suite stereo. So I am hoping that it does but not holding my breath. I'll let you guys know if it does though.
